If you follow the link in Sources, you can locate stores that offer Wilton cake decorating classes near you.  This will typically include national craft stores like Hobby Lobby, Michaels, Joanns, etc.  but also smaller independent cake decorating shops.

Instead of the Wilton Method of cake decorating, small/local shops may offer their own cake decorating classes.  I'm a Wilton instructor so I am a little biased, but I love the history, publications and products that Wilton has to offer.  I think it is truly the best and most economical option for people learning the hobby.
