It's a learned habit...Some people will say it's because the food you are feeding isn't being digested well so they go for it again...NOT the case..

I've been a breeder for over 20 years and never even imagined that this was possible til I bought a 6 month old female from out of state..When I first saw her do it I WAS HORRIFIED !

So I asked my vet and he educated me that it's a trait picked up by watching other dogs do it..

Gross...I never did break her of it and since then have have a couple dogs "learn" the behavior...

There ARE remedies, but they didn't work for me..

"forbid" is something that you can get at the pet or farm store...You put it on their food and it makes the p**p taste "nasty"...I KNOW ! LIKE IT'S NOT NASTY ALREADY !!

Well it didn't work, neither did any number of other things suggested to me...

There's my answer, it's a learned behavior that becomes a habit...The only cure is to clean up the poo as soon as it hits the ground..lol

dog's are not dumb they are actually one of the easiest animals to train. when i first got my little toy poodle, he aint his p**p i asked his vet it was because a puppy has a much faster digestive system then a human so when they make waste of it, it still smells and tastes like his food.
