  1. racing runabouts are still in wood - sorensen woodcraft is one manufacturer

I also saw some wood decking and gunwales/freeboard on the chris craft boats at the LA boat show, but I think the substrate on those was resin prepreg

  2. fiberglass is a popular choice today since maintaining a wooden boat is a very expensive.  but if you have the time, money, passion to own one, trying finding a new england boat builder.  it will be very expensive.  you could always try to buy a used wooden boat but restoration is expense as well.

  3. ah. children...

"if the wooden boat store is still in existence".....

there are literally hundreds of small firms building wooden boats today......and WoodenBoat magazine is the central clearing house for information on boat builders.....google them......

and you can find people building 25-45 foot boats by the dozens, mostly in NEw England the the Pacific NorthWest, and a few....Boothbay Harbor Shipyard and Ganon and Benjamin on the Vineyard....will build whatever size you want, charge you an arm and BOTH legs, and produce a boat that will still be wowing people 100 years from now when all the 'glass boats are 50 years in a landfill

  4. Some of the most beautiful wood runabouts made are built by Hacker-Craft Boat Company.  Check out their website... www.hackerboat.com

  5. I'm sure somewhere someone does.

  6. It seems anybody got thru their second boat building wrote a book about it. The "Traditional Boat Building Made Easy" by Richard Kolin  is a nice publication and "The Wooden Boat Store" -If their are still in business-has a toll free #1-800-273-7447. Go to the library and search these authors- Henry McCarthy,-Peter Spectre,-David C McIntosh. There is a firm in Crescent City, Ore that used to make finished boats including motor boats. But they seemed a little expensive -you had to be an enthuisist.
