Does anybody out there live in New York and wish to relocate to Jamaica,west indies?

I currently live in New York,but would love to relocate to Jamaica! I am in a long-distance relationship.My boyfriend lives there.Is there anyone out there with the same desire? Male or female can reply.Also,is it as dangerous as people say it is?my boyfriend keeps a machete under his bed for protection.do you think they would welcome an American down there?Thanks!

I prefer to sleep with more 'solid steel' by my bedside. Machetes tend to be limited in range and power.

Truth is that how safe you feel at night is HIGHLY dependent on the nieghbourhood you are in. Security issues and needs vary dramatically, and the thing to do is to know how to respond and structure your habits accordingly. Some streets are safe and others are not. Some nieghbourhoods are nearly crime free and other are crime ridden.

Where i am right now, i am in the heart of kingston (apartment near half way tree) i have actually been to sleep with the patio door wide open before, but i wouldnt do that deliberately or make it a habit.

If you feel to come to Jamaica then just do that. The only real security advice would be take your time to understand the place. Ask lots of questions (ask people you trust) and dont let your guard down until you get a proper understanding of when and where it is safe to do so.

You can do a search for current global issues at the DOD (US dept of defense) website.  Also check the CDC website for health concerns, www.cdc.com    www.escapeartist.com also may be a good source for relevant info for you.  God bless...and as the Bible says..."be wise as a serpent...and innocent as a dove."

I plan to go there as soon as my house sells, and who knows WHEN that will be~

Jamaican's well welcome ANYONE as long as you r not causing trouble and r contributing to the country.  Where does you boyfriend live.  I live by myself in kingston and i do not sleep with a machete under my bed.  Maybe if he lives in a volatile area he might feel he need protection or if he has reasons to think he might be in danger.  If not kingston is as safe as anywhere else. Plus if u live in NY you can live in jamaica.

I spent two weeks in Jamaica.  One week in Montego Bay and one week in Oscho Rios, Jamaica "No Problem"!
