  1. I started driving and buying gas in the early 70's, I think gas was around 30 cents a gallon.

  2. Ask President Bush!!!   He should know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. I remember when gas was UNDER a dollar a gallon.......when it went over, the gas stations had to get new pumps because the old ones couldn't go that high.  LOL  I thought that was high priced gas!  If I'd only knew then what I know now.......

  4. I bought gas for $0.89 in 1995 while driving through the mid west somewhere.   I remember seeing a refinery along the highway not far away and thinking this would be a good place to fill up.

  5. When I graduated from high school in 1991 it was $1.29...It went down to around a $1.10-$1.15 for a couple years after that, but then began to creep up.   I know because I drove a 1976 Camaro which got about 8 miles to the gallon.  Makes you notice price really quickly when you're filling a 20 gallon tank.

  6. Gas was a dollar or less in the 60s.  It started to go to a dollar around 1970 and has increased overall since.

  7. I remember paying $.88 cents a gallon for gas in the 1990's!  That was in Washington state.  I'd graduated high school and moved out on my own at age 19.

It was good when Regan was in office, no?

  8. it was $1.60 some time in like...idk, 2004 or 05 or something...i kno it cuz i remember getting interested in gas prices when i was younger a LONG time ago

  9. I remember when gas was 10 cents.  We filled our cars for about $1.  Went to the drive in movies at $1. car load.

Took our own snacks of candy bars that cost 5cents, our own popcorn and a 5 cent coke if we had the money which we usually didn't, they were much smaller and we split it.

Then we got married before we had our children.

That is the way they did it then.

We purchased a new car for under $2000. He had a great job working for the steal company and my father was so empressed that my husband made $70 a week wages.

Our apartment rent was 50. a month, which my father thought was out ragesous.  But it included all utilities except the phone.  It was in Oakland CA.

San Leandro was all cherry trees that were beautiful in the spring.  However, outside the city.

My father  was living in the valley where things in a farming community was much cheaper.  Our first house was a tract home where they build a whole field of these houses with cement floors and 3 bedrooms and a bathroom. 1000 sq ft.

That was a big jump from the Sears kit home of 2 bedrooms and a bath you bought in a kit and put up yourself, for $2000.

    800 sq.ft.

It cost almost 10,000.  it was like 9, 850.  My dad said, "no house was worth $10,000. we were very extravagant because we had good jobs.  It was in now what is called silicone valley.

Where house are selling for 1 million.  About 7 years later we sold that house for enough to take the equity and almost buy a house in the valley outside of Fresno.

Where a really nice house was about $8,000. even years later.  Those same houses now sell for 250, to 300,000.

People make more in a few days than we made all month.

cars are about 30,000.  more than we would pay for a house.

Gas is no longer 10 cents a gallon but 3.00 compared to other things, that doesn't seem like so much.

  10. The last time it was around a dollar a gallon was about twenty years ago.

I do remember it being around $1.29 a gallon during the last recession, around 2002.

It probably hit around $1.59 in the late 1990's.

Should this recession get worse, it should drop to about $2.50 a gallon.

  11. I bought gas for 29 cents a gallon in the late 60's. I remeber when gas went over $1.00. The gas stations signs had no way to but the dollar up on thier signs.

  12. it was still 29 to 35 cents in the early 70s, it started to go up during the arab oil embargo around 1974. it got to a dollor or more by the late 70s early 80s.

  13. No, dude, it was NOT in the 90s! It was in the 60s when gas was under one dollar. By the mid to late 70s premium was about $1.10. I remember when I was in college in the late 70s. I had a Buick Electra 225. That thing required premium gasoline. I paid over $1.00/gallon for it then, so regular was much cheaper. Heck, I remember when a bottle of coke was $o.25, and you got a nickle for a return on the bottle. I remember walking through 10 feet of snow for miles to catch the school bus and... LOL! Now I see the school bus stopping at every block! No wonder kids these days are "obese."

  14. It was like a 1.08 in like 1994 I think...you could probably find this out on the web somewhere..

  15. Well, yes, I first started driving in 2000 and gas was 98 cents a gallon. Then when I went to college  in 2002, gas was $1.20. I live in Washington so our gas prices were (are) some of the highest in the nation...
