  1. Johannes Kepler (along with help from Tycho Brahe (and his golden nose)) refined the Copernican model to the point where we all believe in it now.... its a good system for describing what really happens.

  2. Actually I'm guessing a lot of people don't see the distinction between the Copernican and Keplerian models, so many people will think that the Copernican model is fine...

  3. It depends on what you mean by "Copernican model".  If you mean his idea that the planets move in perfectly circular orbits, this was abandoned when Kepler published his 3 laws of planetary motion in 1608/1618 (1608 for the first two, and 1618 for the third).

If you mean that the planets all orbit the Sun, if this were incorrect, spacecraft such as the Mars Phoenix Lander and the Voyagers would not get where they are supposed to be going, which is adequate proof of Copernicus being correct without need for fancy arguments.

  4. believe what you want

personally, I have been trying to give my tarantula a dose of radioactivity, by taking apart smoke detectors... so far, Pinky, my tarantula, has neither shown any unusual effects, nor has he bitten me.
