Does anybody think Mexicans will be sorry some day by abandoning their culture and country?

I'm not racist, but, I can't understand why they want to leave something that is theirs. Seems like every other race is trying to hold on to their culture except them. I do think they should speak our language if they want to be a part of the U.S. A lot of our citizens are unable to read, write or spell. Why not pour that money into our own education and all speak English and they can follow suit.

I'm guessing you have no idea what a mess Mexico is.  It's doesn't have the same laws and benefits America does.  People from all different countries want to come to America, not just Mexicans. They just happen to be connected by land to us so they get much more attention.  When I lived in FL, Cubans would float up on beaches everyday.  It's not about abandoning their heritage.  They bring that with them.  It's about going somewhere where their quality of life will be better.  I admit, they may be going about it the wrong way, but I think they are desperate and are trying to escape a life they were born into - a life that is so difficult that most of us cannot even begin to understand. Don't be so quick to judge!

I guess you don't live in California.  There is no lack of Hispanic culture all around us.  It's not all Mexican, BTW.  

I am a NY Jew, and I have corn and flour tortillas, salsas (1 container of store-bought, the other homemade), burritos, refried beans, and carne asada in the fridge.  That's not condescending; food is one of the most important aspects of a culture.

Every culture assimilates.  It takes, generally, 3 generations.  3rd generation Hispanics / Latinos are marrying out of their culture at the same rate as other immigrants.  It's just not as obvious because there are so many new arrivals.

BTW, the literacy rate in the US is 99%.  If you have been in school here for any length of time, you can read.  And that's everybody under 16.  Maybe not well, but that's another issue.

The are like every other group in history that came to the United States in groups.  The Irish, Italian, Polish etc.  They are looking for a better life, not to abandoned their culture.  You don;t have to be somewhere physically in order to practice the culture and beliefs.

Wow!  This is really very involved.  Let's start with a few simple facts: in 1900, there were more than 10,000 languages spoken on earth.  By the year 2000, there were less than half.  Sorry to say, ALL nationalities are abandoning their cultures.  Even in the Kalahari Desert the bushmen are no longer able to survive there on their own; the youths have refused to learn what their elders teach them.  This is also true with all of the American Indians, to a greater or lesser degree...some have retained rudimentary skills and knowledge; others are completely anglacized.

The most common misconception is "What is an American?"  Being a descendant of Innuits, Eskimos and several Indian tribes, a descendant of Mayflower "Pilgrims" of Germantown, Pennsylvania and Germanna, Virginia, I would say that "Americans" are mostly foreigners who have abandoned MOST OF THEIR CULTURES AND LANGUAGES and have mixed with other foreigners to form a "culture".  You will have to look long and hard to find anything "American" that is not of foreign origin: tacos, salsa, pizza, hot dogs, hamburgers, almost everything eaten here, almost everything used here is of foreign derivation.  Hence, there is no "American culture".  But, new comers don't realize that.  Study history!

Next, any one coming here, if capable, should learn English, the American variety, or return home.  Language, according to the Darwinists, is the only thing separating humans from animals, and to divide the language into gibberish is to reduce humans to the animal level.

Lastly, Mexicans and others mostly are coming to this country to improve their economic well being.  They don't know how to do this on their own, so they take advantage of what we have.

I don't think the people are abandoning their country I think their country is abandoning them. I think the Mexican government should make it possible for these poor people to make a living in their own country.

There are 40 million miserable people in Mexico (this means extreme poverty). Sometimes, the only solution is to look for an opportunity, they won´t find, in U.S.A. Mexican workers are exploited, they take the jobs which American people do not want and they are in constant danger of being sent back, imprisoned, shot , etc. It is a very complex problem and it is going to take a lot of participation from both countries to solve it.
