I have asperges syndrome, which means sometimes i can stare at people, say an obnoxious word or become extremely hyperactive. I take anti depresent tablets, because people pick on me about my condition. Relationships have ended up in termoil. Recently, I have stopped scratching myself and being edgy and I am more calm. So my medication must be working. Is there anybody that has had similar experiences.

  1. Depression and anxiety can be expressed as irritability or "edginess." Scratching oneself, depending on the degree, can have an obsessive-compulsive quality. All of these conditions can be helped by antidepressant medication, so it makes sense that it may have helped you. I know of many kids who get some relief from symptoms like these through meds.

Medication does not, of course, address the social problems and other issues that are at the core of Asperger Syndrome -- just the secondary traits. But it can be easier to work on those problems when you're not so troubled by anxiety and the rest.
