Question:

Does anyone actually do any thinking of their own anymore?

You see so many people who simply copy whatever they read or see or hear on the news, and they present it as some sort of revolutionary idea that they thought of on their own. They blindly accept whatever Ann Coulter or Michael Moore offers, and simply repeat it without considering whether it has a shred of logic. Liberals and conservatives are equally guilty of it. They think that they are being a really subversive and rebellious person, when in reality, they haven't had an original thought in years. They think they are cool because they say provocative and controversial things, which actually have no substance.

Is there any actual intelligence going on out there?

  1. Don't know?!?! Let me check the internet for an appropriate answer.

In all seriousness I know many people who try to start a discussion or topic with what sounds like a thought provoking introduction yet it stalls immediately becuase they are "puking" up a comment they heard somewhere without ever hearing the whole story.

Also, I'm sure we know many who can't hold a conversation unless it's info. from the NAtional Enquirer, Us or gossip about a neighbor.

  2. From the number of blogs now on line, and from the quality of the editorials in the print media, I'd say there's a lot of individuals out there who still think for themselves. You always have a certain number of vocal copycats, no matter what era you live in...but generally, people still do make up their own minds. You have to remember the Great Equation however:

GI=GO (Garbage IN equals Garbage OUT.)

This applies to thought, and to the media.

  3. My parents told me to answer "no"

  4. I may not be the brightest crayon in the box but I still think for myself.

  5. You certainly raise some interesting points.  Sadly, our society has become a 24/7 media news blitz and this contributes to the loss of thinking on your own and formulating your own opinion.  People are so heavily persuaded by what they perceive to be the truth, that no one takes the time to consider alternative ideas or choices.  People tend to jump on the bandwagon for all sorts of issues and then try to play it off that they are a long time believer of the cause.  So to answer your question, I do believe that there is still a lot of intellectual thinking out there, but waning with each younger generation.
