I mean if there's no money at stake, does anyone actually enjoy Horse Racing?

Isn't it just a sport for gambling?

  1. I love racing, whether I bet or not.

I'll go to the track to watch races.  No, I don't bet them all.

I'll watch racing on TV, most of the time there's nothing good to watch on any of the other 300 channels anyway.

Ask NASCAR fans what the draw is.  Some people like to watch cars race in circles.  I find the horses much more enjoyable.

I bet from time to time.  But I will watch horses run anytime, whether I have a betting interest or not.

  2. Yes I do and so do all my work colleagues!  We all have a bet but not on a daily basis.

Yes some days are filled with c**p racing - sellers, claimers and 0-50 handicaps, but other days are full of gems to savour.

To watch a good horse and jockey in full flow is to see poetry in motion.  Watching many big races over again brings tears to my eyes - like watching Lester Piggott and Royal Academy in the BC Mile or Dubai Millennium anhilating the Dubai World Cup field.

If you had heard the reception that Spotthedifference got when he entered the winners enclosure at Cheltenham just a few weeks ago, or the cheers for Persian Punch when he won the Jockey Club Cup at Newmarket several years ago, you would know that many people watch racing for the love of the sport, not to gamble.

  3. I can go an entire day without placing a bet! It's NOT about the gambling for me, it's the LOVE of the game. The mere sound of pounding hooves coming down the stretch sets my heart just racing ( pun intended...LOL!).

  4. It depends on the quality of the horses running, for instance anyone interested in horse racing would want to just watch the cheltenham gold cup to see which one wins out of Kauto Star, Exotic Dancer and Denman.

  5. Any sport can be gambled on.  And money isn't the only thing that you can bet with....so that right there tells you something.

I know that when I worked on the tracks, my fav part was the whole thing.  Workouts and training, the walk over to the paddock for the race....the walk back to the barns or the spitbox....just knowing that I was doing what I always wanted to, working with Thoroughbreds.  I didn't bet often.

    I enjoyed the whole thing.

  6. not really for gambling, some people love it as a game and not money making kind of sports so sure, people can enjoy it without betting

  7. Many trainers, stable hands and others whos job depends on it.

  8. I do.  I am usually working during the races so it doesn't leave anytime to go bet on the horses.  Even when I don't have to work on a race day I usually don't bet either.

One thing though if a horse that I take care of wins I do usually get a bonus $50 or $100 dollars depending on the trainer.

  9. I guess some do and some dont.Theirs certain horses I

    like to follow.

I study papers watch tv,Find out much as I can on the weekend races.Ide say its A hobby for me.

  10. I love horse racing and I rarely place a bet.It is exciting!!

  11. I enjoy watching, and keeping my money in my pockets.  :O)

  12. I love horse racing and I very rarely actually bet.  I find it fun to make mythical bets just to see how much I could win.  I would have hit the pick 6 on Breeders Cup day and won $200,000.  I like watching all races, even claiming races involving horses I don't even know.  I watch racing on my computer in class.
