  1. I quit masturbating cold turkey.

  2. if you quit something cold turkey it projects an image of no-nonsense strength and determination. everyone wants to be associated with that.

(nobody wants to appear to be a slave to an addiction).

If you think of quitting, or cutting back on something,  then it's not "cold turkey", so no one really quits anything this way.

  3. your mom tried to quit me " cold turkey " , but it didn't happen .

  4. That's how I quit smoking over a year ago.  I didn't wean myself.  I didn't take prescription drugs.  I didn't take any over-the-counter stop smoking aids.  And I didn't get any counseling or hypnosis.  I just made the conscious decision to not smoke anymore and I threw away what was left in my pack.  I never bought another pack, never bummed a cigarette.  Sure, I had cravings on occasion, but not strong enough for me to come close to giving in.  I still have cravings from time to time, but no real desire to smoke again.  I would say the cold turkey approach worked rather successfully for me.

  5. people can quit by using cold turkey nethod.  it doesn't however involve using a cold turkey.  It may sound cool but it is anything but.

  6. I was not feeling well for a while and I suspected something was wrong when I lit a ciggarette and almost puked.  Several days later I found out I was 6 weeks and 4 days pregnant.  From the exact day that I found out I was pregnant I quit smoking "cold turkey.!"  I did not cheat one time throughout my pregnancy.  I had been a smoker for a long time but I just felt that it wasn't about me anymore and it was the healthiest thing to do for my baby.

  7. The phrase 'cold turkey' comes from one of the symptoms of opiate (heroin etc) withdrawal without any other medication to alleviate the symptoms - where the person alternately shivers and sweats and the skin constantly raises in 'goosebumps' or gooseflesh.

There are other symptoms too, diarrhea, vomiting, dilated pupils, a deep exhaustion yet an intense irritability and restlessness often shown by an inability to keep still. This is where the phrase 'kicking' the habit comes from, because it is almost impossible to keep one's legs still.

Even when other medications such as methadone are used deeply unpleasant effects are still experienced.

And if you've been through it you'll realise there is NOTHING cool about it at all. It's horrible.

  8. I quit drinking cold turkey. And I'm kind of quitting smoking cold turkey, but that's just because I don't have money to buy more. : )
