Does anyone believe me when I predict that a large earthquake is going to hit the American West Coast?

Within the next month or so? I figure it will either be in California, probably Northern CA, or Alaska. How will this affect the election?

  1. Hopefully it would shake up Americans enough to make them realize what a disaster it would be if Palin suddenly became President.  Not that McCain wouldn't be disaster enough.

  2.    I lived in California from 1973 - 1976 and even then I kept hearing we were due for the "big one" that year.   It will happen, but probably only when everybody stops talking about it.

  3. 1906

    1989

    2060??????????

    What are you talking about????????????

  4. Well the largest fault line in the US is over there, so yeah I believe you.  I don't think you can predict it accurately though.

  5. The death toll for Hurricane Katrina was 1,836.  Is this large scale?

  6. Well, ya never know.....but they've said the 'big one' is gonna come anytime soon...so your prediction isn't all that new....sorry, maybe your psychic powers need a tune up...

  7. I was going to say that is a pretty safe bet, but you upped the ante with the before the election thing. I hope not, major disasters make it hard for those affected to be able to vote.

  8. If there were an earthquake it would have little effect on the election.

  9. It's PROBABLE, but not possible.

Earthquakes are merely the stress reduction between the tectonic plates.  There has not been enough time lapsed from the last major quake to expect another.  The plates would not have had time to gain the kinetic strength to produce such a quake.  Small, perhaps, as the plates will always adjust as needed during the growth phase, but a large one is definitely not in the cards.

  10. If it happens im certain it will be Bushs fault. After all he did Katrina and 911. Im certain he has some sort of earthquake machine at his disposal.

  11. And just what does this have to do with an election?

  12. There will be an Earthquake in California. There's always an earthquake in California. It won't be large, or disruptive however, and it will not effect the political process.

  13. It's possible.

Earthquakes are always possible in California.

  14. I know your hoping for a disaster on the scale of Hurricane Katrina. Just like Michael Moore you would prefer the death and destruction of your fellow Americans to loosing the election. Just say it...just like Michael Moore did when he heard there was a major hurricane headed for New Orleans during the Republican National Convention..."there is a God"

  15. Really?  The republicans have an earthquake creating machine too?  They did such a good job with the hurricane machine, maybe the earthquake machine will work too.

PS.  Does Bush get to blow up any levees during an earthquake?

  16. Large earthquakes have happened there before, and will happen again. All life on the planet could be extinguished, and the tectonic plates will still move.

The ring of fire, which is the circle of volcanoes and earthquake faults that ring the Pacific, will always be unstable. Volcanoes and Earthquakes will happen.

The San Andreas Fault runs right through the back of some of the most populated areas of California. This is a live quake fault line. One day, of course it will quake again.

Whether it happens before the election, is a bit more difficult to predict. As another answerer has said, it takes time to build up the pressure for an earthquake to happen.

  17. YES I BELIEVE YOU!!

  18. an earthquake? in cali? no way!

  19. thats not really earth-shattering to me, being born here in cali. grew up  here and am still here. earthquakes are always a possibility here. so yes, i believe you. as for the election and how an earthquake might affect it, I dont really see how it would unless california finally  really does fall off into the ocean. then i guess it might affect  all state level politics if a large portion of the state dropped into the ocean!

  20. Dude, you trying to curse America?

They'll bomb you up or something! Just Joking.

I believe you for a 0.5%, nothing is impossible!
