It would be nice for all those would be and current players who want to represent their home state, but my theory is that the AFL are not at all interested simply becasue they hope to eventually re-locate struggling Victorian teams. What do you think?

  1. I think the topic and cause has been around for at least 10 years and admittedly it appears to be gaining more momentum than ever. The counter arguments have always been inadequate infrastructure and a small population.

I believe it's all about economics and politics and with the Mars Bar people getting involved to the tune of $4 million and the Tassie goverment pushing for it bigtime it may very well happen in the not too distant future.

I certainly support it and also hope a team can be introduced here in the NT so as to create a truly national competition.

  2. YES I think there will be a Tasmanian team in the AFL... it's just a matter of when. I think it will be later rather than sooner. It seems there is already a lot of support in Tasmania, so as frustrating as it will be for Tasmanians I think this is the reason that it will be some time before we see a Tasmanian AFL team. (Because) It is smarter for the AFL to establish foundations and a following for teams in areas where there is currently no following than it is where there is already one.

(Think about it...) When these new clubs begin winning games and showing some promise is when their supporter base will grow and that's when the AFL can easily introduce another club with a whole state behind them!!

Also, another team may need to be introduced (at the same time as Tasmania) to make the number of clubs even again... maybe in Canberra/ (the) ACT.

I think it's great that teams are being made where people don't follow the footy!!

and don't relocate ANY teams.. keep 10 in Victoria! Keep the others where they already are. The clubs are fine as they are.

so again... it is my opinion that ...Yes there will be a Tassie team but (I think) it's more likely to be later than sooner.

  3. Don't re-locate a pathetic vicorian team just get rid of them. Let tassie start fresh, make there own history and have there own spirt. Is the only way the game will go forward. Im sure it will happen and it is really about time.

  4. I think it's as likely as the NT having their own team.... HIGHLY UNLIKELY...... It would be great to see the game go to every state and Territory but unfortunatly I can't see the AFL allowing it.....

  5. I too would like to see it happen, and at the moment it seems as if they have a chance. The new Mars Bar sponsorship deal definitely boosts their chances.

I just don't think the AFL want a team down there though, they're committed to West Sydney, because all they want to do is overtake rugby! I say put the new team where the people want it!

  6. Yes, Tassie will eventually have its own team, because these moves in Gold Coast and West Sydney will founder, The AFL will go broke trying to get them up, The Golden Greek will be thrown out of office  and Tassie will be a foundation member of the new VTFL along with Melbourne. Keep the game where it began, in suburban Melbourne. Give it back to its tribal roots.

  7. I'm in Tassie and I reckon it would be a good thing but I dunno how good the team would be unless they recruited mainlanders. I'm not saying Tasmanian's suck at footy its just there arnt as many small teams down here and there are heaps of experienced players in the AFL so a new team might struggle.

  8. Yes I really hope so.

Why not? It would do wonders for our apple isle!!

Yes the Mars Bar deal just shows what confidence they have in a Tassie deal.

  9. I'd love to see it, but I honestly don't think the AFL will allow it to happen

  10. The deal with Mars Bar really shows the AFL that the Tassie Team can and will attract the Big Sponsors it need to be viable

I reckon its not a fair comp unless all of the states are represented

But then the AFL has not been a "fair" comp for a lot of years now

( dont get me started, hey )

I would love to see a Tassie team, makes a h**l of a lot more sense than trying to expand into areas which  DONT EVEN FOLLOW AFL!!!!!

But i have to say that i really dont see it happening any tome soon. Demetriou is sooooo committed to the two teams allready proposed, and its unlikely ANY AFL boss would want to go to 19 teams

I think the best thing for Tassie would be the merger of two of the existing strugling vic teams. like Melbourne

Or a takeover of Mel by Tassie? so the demons become the devils?

    just a thought

    SIDENOTE

watched stateline on the ABC the other day, ( because of another segment i was interested in) and this guy was talking about the Mars Bars deal and the Tassie team

Reporter asked " do you think Demetriou has to go before Tassie wll get a fair go?"

Reply was " it certianly wouldnt hurt"
