Question:

Does anyone care about the lack of information at the Vietnam Wall?

I want to lobby to congress to add a directory by the others that list by name recipients of awards except the purple heart, because everyone who was KIA recieved the purple heart, (but am sort of afraid of doing that, excluding purple heart). And create a directory for just POW/MIA on the wall.

This directory of names would be out in front of the wall next to the other ones. All there is now is just 5-6 directories that alphabetically list the names on the wall, which I found to be inconvienant, for myself on two occassions.

I don't know if i'm the only person who thinks or notices this?

  1. The idea is a thought.  But I wonder if that would almost defeat the purpose or the meaning of the wall.  Notice that there is very little mention of the individuals' military standing, where they were or what unit they were with or even their military rank.  (I think there's no mention of rank or branch on the wall, right?  Although the directory, not the wall, does list branch of service and grade)  So I'm wondering if the meaning of the wall is that these are all equal human beings and that's signified by just listing the name, the civilian name their mom gave them, without any frills.

So I'm wondering if a plan to list all the medals and ribbons (even though these decorations are symbols of honor and to be admired) and awards might tend to make it seem like some lives were more important than others and detract from the basic meaning of The Wall memorial.

  2. I haven't been there but if I could gather support and we could go in numbers to get this done......I would. Sorry to say I haven't been there, but I have many high school friends that are gone from the war. I think it's despicable the way the Vietnam Vets were treated when they came home. They are soldiers defending us and doing what they are told to the best of their ability. My hat is off and a big thank you to all who serve us on the homefront and abroad. God Bless our military and thank you from me!
