  1. Yes it's hard. And it's really expensive, whether by car or train.

  2. My uncle commutes from Portadown to Dublin, mon-fri (Portadown is a couple of stops before Belfast on the train, Belfast would be an extra 35mins on the train). He uses the train, its quite expensive but he gets a monthly or three monthly (not sure) ticket, they have these tickets but dont advertise them so you could enquire with Ianroad Eireann. Its very hard, he has no home life or social life during weekdays and its a very long cummute to do twice a day (Belfast would be even longer)

He loves his job though and is happy enough with it, so basically if its an absolute job of a life-time and you really dont mind spending 5hours (or more) a day commuting to and fro, then go for it, otherwise I would try to find something in Dublin or even move to Belfast, if these options are no go and you have your heart set on this job, then go for, you can do it but it definitely wont be easy.

Best of luck with whatever you decide.

  3. Depending on where you start in Belfast and end in Dublin, the journey is about 115 miles each way (plus or minus).  So, to figure the cost of the journey-- by cost per lire of petrol, avg MPG of cars in the UK, speed limit on the motorway, and miles of the journey (230 return) will cost about £20.00 per day. The petrol alone will be about £100 per week, plus the cost of parking (if there is any).

The Translink monthly pass to Dublin is £292.00.  This is £73 per week.  It is cheaper and you don't have to do the boring drive everyday.  You could always drive one month and take the train one month to switch things up.  The good thing about the train is you can relax and not have to worry about the driving.  Plus, you can easily get to where you need to in Dublin with the DART, Luas, and Dublin bus and not have to worry about the parking.
