My fiance eats them without cooking them. I remember my mom saying you need to cook them. Does anyone know whether it is safe to eat them without cooking them? I even read the package and it has boil, microwave or stove top cooking instructions.

  1. not all of them need to be cooked, i let mine it in some boiling water for about 3min,just to take the chill out, but as a kid i ate them jus lyk that all the time

  2. Some are precooked, but it is still recommended they be heated.

  3. i,ve eaten about 12000 of these things not cooked when i was growing up..well i guess the point is i,m here answering this question right..

    thanks

  4. this is fine because hot dogs are already cooked. the only reason to heat them up is so that you are not eating cold food that we think should be hot. He will be fine

  5. They are already cooked.  There's no harm.  The only reason they have cooking directions is because that's the way they are usually served.  I wouldn't want a cold hot dog on a bun with the fixings, but I've eaten them cold when I'm really hungry or on the go.  All my grandchildren love them right out of the package, in fact they all prefer them that way.

  6. Raw hot dogs won't hurt your fiance, they are already processed and pre-cooked.

  7. It ok to eat them this way. Your mom told you this becuase of the risk or listeria. Listeriosis, a serious infection caused by eating food contaminated with the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes, has recently been recognized as an important public health problem in the United States. The disease affects primarily persons of advanced age, pregnant women, newborns, and adults with weakened immune systems. However, persons without these risk factors can also rarely be affected.  The risk may be reduced by following a few simple recommendations.

The bacterium has been found in a variety of raw foods, such as uncooked meats and vegetables, as well as in processed foods that become contaminated after processing, such as soft cheeses and cold cuts at the deli counter. Unpasteurized (raw) milk or foods made from unpasteurized milk may contain the bacterium.

Listeria is killed by pasteurization and cooking; however, in certain ready-to-eat foods such as hot dogs and deli meats, contamination may occur after cooking but before packaging

Thoroughly cook raw food from animal sources, such as beef, pork, or poultry.

Wash raw vegetables thoroughly before eating.

Keep uncooked meats separate from vegetables and from cooked foods and ready-to-eat foods.

Avoid unpasteurized (raw) milk or foods made from unpasteurized milk.

Wash hands, knives, and cutting boards after handling uncooked foods.

Consume perishable and ready-to-eat foods as soon as possible

    This is for pregant people:

Do not eat hot dogs, luncheon meats, or deli meats, unless they are reheated until steaming hot.

Avoid getting fluid from hot dog packages on other foods, utensils, and food preparation surfaces, and wash hands after handling hot dogs, luncheon meats, and deli meats.

  8. Of course it's safe. They are already cooked. The only reason we heat them is for flavour, in the same way that beer tastes YUK warm but good when it's coldddddd.

  9. yes, i eat it with a hotdog. sounds odd but the flavors match

  10. yes like them like that but better cooked

  11. Havent you ever heard of mexicans?

  12. he should be ok I have eaten them before and the directions on the back is just if you want to heat them up it dose not mean you have to cook them. We have not been sick from eating them so it should be good
