Does anyone else's 1 year old have a lot of bruises?

My son doesn't walk yet, and his crawling is unconventional. Instead of being on his hands and knees, he uses his forearms and legs and kind of does it like an army commando. He'll crawl over things like they're not even there and this has caused his forearms to have small bruises all over. Also, sometimes he gets ahead of himself and one of his arms will get stuck underneath him and he'll go down and bump his head on the floor. When this happens, he doesn't seem to care, he just straightens himself up and keeps going. But he's got little bruises all over his left temple and forehead now too! Add in the ones he's got on his shins from laying on his tummy and kicking things behind him and he looks like he's been in a fight. He doesn't seem to mind it in the least because he never cries when these things happen, but I'm just wondering if this is normal for a little guy his age?

  3. this is normal for a 1 year old. my son is now two but when he was 1 his legs had alot of bruises on them . during a dr's visit i asked the dr about it and she said they were normal for his age even now at 2 he has bruises from tripping and falling to banging into things its all part of being a child bruises cuts and scrapes are part of the age

  4. Yes! It drives me crazy :-) I have to keep cocoa butter on her skinned because she's olive and it can scar. But it's completely normal!!

  5. Of course its normal. He isnt exactly "stable" yet. Dont worry, mom!

  6. Yep.  Bumps and bruises are just part of it all.  My 15 month old currently has a huge bump smack dab right in the middle of his forehead and I don't even know how it got there! Bad mommy! :)  Seriously, though, kids play hard and are very resilient!  He may even end up getting more bruises the more he starts walking! (Or maybe less.)  If he's not hurt by it, then don't worry about it too much. He's learning what he can and cannot do.  Have fun while he's a little bit contained because when he starts walking, he'll be into everything!! :)

  7. yep, it's normal!  Just as everyone else said.

Children don't watch where they are going, especially at that young of an age.

    He may be enjoying it.

My son has a sensory processing disorder in where his pain receptors are not firing right, so he has an extremely high tolerance to pain...which therefore, causes him to hurt himself to FEEL the pain, or whatever the feeling is he is looking for at the time.  He feels tickeling ect...his pleasure receptors are normal...just not the pain ones...might try getting him checked, check around for a therapist you could work with.  My son sees a behavioral specialist and was getting Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Physical Therapy...to help.

You may just need a little assistance with getting  him on schedule.  There are soo many different things out there now....Good Luck!

    *my son is now 3*

He has jumped out a window

    jumped out of a van

climbed the front of a van and got on top of it

fallen off a table having to get 4 staples in his head-AND he ENJOYED it!!

And so much more, I can't even explain it all.

    Good Luck hun!

    ~hugs

  8. maybe you need to get him a safety helmet

idk where to buy them but i know they have them for toddlers

that crawl around places. it may be normal. but id add extra pillows

because i wouldnt want my baby having all those bruises.

and if u sent him to preschool they might think ur child is being bruised.

but anyways id get the helmets because u dont want him hurting his head. and id cushion the living room

  9. My doctor called them "healthy kid marks".  My son seemed to have a permanent bruise on his forehead for about 3 weeks when he first started to crawl because he wouldn't look up LOL.  Now he is 2 and always has bruises on his shin, as does his 5 yr old sister.

completely normal - and according to my doctor he would be more worried about a bruise free kid then one with a few bumps here and there.

  10. I think so. My rough and tumble little boy used to sometimes look like I had beat him when he was that age. When he was about 15 months old he gave himself a black eye running in the hallway!! He knocked the same spot on his forehead like 4 weeks running. He had what looked like the same bruise for like 6 weeks.

  11. yes my 14 month old son is walking and there are lots and lots of bruises. i saw a 2 year old the other day with a black eye! my son doesn't care either and just gets on with what he's doing. sometimes i feel a little embarrassed by his bruises but then i look around at other babies and they are also full of them. just part of life with a one year old :)
