I can't stand having to choose from English or Spanish. Our laws, currency and legal documents are written in ENGLISH. If this is a melting pot shouldn't there be every language on a label, or a list to choose from when you are at an ATM? If I moved to another country I would learn the language spoken by most people to make their lives easier, and mine. This country is made of immigrants, but they learned the language. My family did, I think the spanish speakers should have to also. And for the people who don't know there are states that have English as their official language, but it needs to be changed to every state.

  1. This is AMERICA. This is the reason America is so beautiful. All the different languages and races. Would you feel the same if it was Italian instead of Spanish. It is beyond your control so stop worrying about it and get a life.

  2. NO, i don´t mind. By the way, hispanics will be a majority by 2040-2050.

    You can google this info.

Edit: I think you won´t have to wait till 2050, YOU are a minority already..........

  3. I don't think its taking over America. I only know one person who speak's spanish and I know a lot of people.

  4. Yeah its F****** annoying how their language is taking over america and to be honest with you its not just thier language its them in general.

they get better benefits then we do, better housing they get everything handed down to them. its discusting. the white race has become the minority. they say in 20-25 years white people will be the minority and its BULLS***.

like when i call my cell phone company to discuss issues or talk about my bill i always get someone who speaks spanish and i cant understand them so i ask for someone els. and they say they cant do it and that i need to get over it i think its bull

but i totally agree with you 100%!!

  5. It doesn't bother me, but then I understand Spanish pretty well. Latinos are the fastest growing part of our population and Spanish could take over some day as the majority language. I think that young people should start learning the language, in case they need it to get along.

If Spanish does take over, it won't be right away. We've got at least a few decades.

    I'm not Spanish or Latino.

  6. what'd you care?

jesus , at least try to make an effort.

it's just not that big a deal

in canada , we have 2 official languages , and lots of b*tching goes on about it , but try to learn some basics and most people will try to help.

d**n..lifes short...get worked up about something else...people are starving!

  7. Well I do agree with you that hispanic immigrants SHOULD at least try to learn English. But you have to look at it this way: these people come from poor villages in which they will make about a maximun of $12 a WEEK to take care of their families. They come here to get jobs to try to provide for their families. They're working 12-18 hour days. Now where are they going to find the time to learn English?

  8. Well, America dosent ONLY speak English, or any certain language.

And Spanish isnt the ONLY foreign language you can choose form in school. I dont know why youre overreacting. I think itd be GOOD for some Americans to learn a foreign language, may it be Spanish or not. And the Spanish language isnt taking over America. Thats just youre opinion.

  9. No. Because:-

    (a) I don't live in America - although my sister does.

    (b) I speak fluent Spanish

    and

    (c) According to my sister and her (American) friends, Spanish is not "taking over" except in the minds of paranoid bigots.

I agree with those who say it would do you good to try learning another language and expanding your cultural horizons.

  10. Before you get all self-righteous on us, you should know that there is no legally sanctioned "national language" here in the US, which is why the polylingualness is allowed.

I say let individual communities do what they want. If Chinatown wants their signs in Chinese then so be it.

What business is it of somebody in Iowa that we have signs in Spanish here when it is our Californian-Spanish speakers paying for part of them?

Butt out and mind your own d**n business.

    ----

I know there are certain states that have this, but YOU are essentially saying EVERY OTHER STATE needs to follow suit. There's something in the US called The Constitution. Anything not explicitly spelled out in the constitution is then deferred to INDIVIDUAL STATES to decide for themselves.

So unless you want to rally for a constitutional amendment to FORCE all states to recognize English as the one and only official language, then stop ranting.

  11. WOW! A little racist or something. My boyfriend is Puerto Rican and i take a little offense to that. I think it just makes you mad because you yourself don't understand what they are saying. It is unbelievable that something so small bothers you so much. So what if it asks you what language. Does it really matter?
