Question:

Does anyone else consider Joel Cassamyor a fraudulent champ?

Nate Campbell should be the recognized lightweight champ! He or Jose Santa Cruz (who rightfully beat Cassamayor but was victom of the greatest robbery, by the judges, many have ever seen). Campbell and Santa Cruz should be fighting for the championship, not Katsidis and Cassamayor!

  1. casamayor is old. he's been obviously beaten by jose sta. cruz. in his last fight.

  2. Well, before that fight Cassamayor was wrongfully stripped of his title that he legitamately won from Diego Corrales. RING magazine however still recognized Cassamayor as the champion which I don't have a problem with. However Juan Diaz had successfully earned the stripped title along with 2 others, therefore; I thought a match between the two of them should have taken place long ago. Diaz of course then lost to Campbell and Cassamayor got a controversial win over Santa Cruz. I don't have a problem with Cassamayor fighting Katsidis but I think the winner should face Campbell for an undisputed championship. Then Santa Cruz could be the first mandatory challenge or face Juan Diaz and the winner of that could get the mandatory challenge. It all makes perfect sense to me but there are a lot of promoters and sanctioning bodies that this logic has to run through first.

  3. No, I still believe that Joel Casamayor is the true lightweight champion of the world.  It is not his fault that the judges gave him a controversial decision.  This has happened throughout history and it used to happen a lot more than it does now.  When Jersey Joe Walcott controversially lost to Joe Louis, nobody made Walcott champ because Louis got the decision, so he was still champ despite the fact that even he knew that he should have lost.  Nate Campbell is obviously the number one contender and is considered to be the best lightweight, but just because you're the best does not mean that you are the true champ, and remember that Casamayor owns a victory over Campbell, even if it was a long time ago.  Before Sonny Liston beat Floyd Patterson, everyone knew that Liston was going to win but until he actually beat Patterson, he was not considered the champion.  "In order to BE the champ, you have to BEAT the champ" regardless of controversy, which has always been a part of boxing.  As of now, Casamayor is still the champ because he beat Diego Corrales, who was considered the champ at the time, and until he actually loses in the ring, retires, or moves to another weight class, then he will still be the rightful champ.  Championship linearity is the most important thing in today's age of all of these "alphabet soup" titles who strip fighters of their belts like band-aids.

  4. i totally agree with ya

  5. No and any chance to watch Katsidis fight is worth it

  6. I disagree on one thing. cassamyor didn't judge the fight that. he should have lost that fight, but for some reason the judges didn't watch the fight. Campbell is the unified champ and in many eyes the true champion.
