Question:

Does anyone else dislike the negative attitude of the eco-friendly world?

I consider myself to be a fairly green person. I look out for the environment and whatnot, but I really get mad at people who tell me I'm not doing enough. They're so negative, like no matter what you do, you're still a bad person for polluting the environment. I'm watching this TV show about how to make your life greener, and the host is calling the people lazy and stuff, and scolding them for not being green. Well, perhaps if people didn't think being green was an unobtainable goal, or that you are a bad person unless you are 100% green, this wouldn't be a problem!

We should encourage people to do what they can, instead of saying, "Yeah, you do that, but you could do more." Just an observation from someone who thinks that we should be more positive towards people being eco-friendly.

  1. To truly be eco-friendly we would have to stop eating since PETA doesn't like us killing cows, pigs, or chickens and we can not eat plants since they have feelings and help to turn the excessive CO2 to O2.  We also would have to move back into the caves and not burn anything.  This is impossible to achieve so minimizing what you use is the next best thing.  I love the environmentalists who drive large SUVs so that they can get back into the areas that they want to protect and cause more pollution by doing this than they are doing good.

  2. It's a good question.

The more you study the issue the more you realize what a bad situation we are in.  So you might get emotional and angry about it and lash out at others.

But this puts people off and makes the situation worse.

The problem is, by the time we have a global crisis that gets everyones attention and galvanizes public opinion to the point that everyone gets on board, it will be too late to reverse the damage.

If you push too hard, there is a backlash (happening now).  If you don't push hard enough it will get to be too late.

    Kind of a catch-22.

  3. How much more serious do you want it to get.  It is the only way to snap people back to consciousness.  I'll give you a negative attitude -  "the world is at a critical point -WAKE UP!!!!"

It IS YOUR problem as much as anyone else.

  4. I think it is more the negative attitude of the media (people seem to like to hear doom & gloom) and the western judeao-christian guilt thing "you're all going to burn in h**l" etc. And the current media obsession with insulting people, eg pop-idol.

Logically being ecologically or environmentally friendly must be about as positive as you can get.

  5. no. I want the best when I turn 30, 40, 50, 60 and so on. but when I have kids, I will be like any parent and would like the best for my kids.

  6. even if you did 100% and everybody in the USA did ,it would still not be enough, because the rest of the world would not be doing it .

Poor people or countries cannot afford to think green ,

    Survival is their priority.

My thoughts are do what you can in your own back yard and community, just to keep the place healthy and clean .Just as you would treat your living room.

Les hope lots of people do as well.

But as a whole and generally speaking Humanity took a wrong turn a long time ago .

To be truly effective the world populations ,

    should be less,

Have a change of diet which means eating less products that are environmentally harmful to produce.

Or concepts that involves treating animals like dirt.(which must be all the meat and fish)

    Totally go into alternative energies.

Do away with the wheel and the internal combustion engine.

Maybe invent anti gravity machines like they have in Star Wars.

Live under the ground or under living roofs.

And if the whole world did that ,we would have a chance of a human sustainable existence

This is an impossible tall order

The skies will be full of flying pigs before we are even a quarter into all that because civilization in general is too addicted to their technology.

Although there are many small communities and individuals who manage to achieve sustainable living that is friendly to other life forms and the Environment

Permaculture is one of those concepts.

But don`t relax yet.the guy above is right ,we are at critical points with many things such as

    A coming potable water shortage,

The loss of arable lands, and rising food prices

Overfishing of the seas and fish do not reproduce fast enough

    Overpopulation in poor regions

    Desertification

    Deforestation.and the production of Ethanol

Pollution of the Soil, Waters and Air.

And worst of all ,a possible nuclear War looming ahead ,in the near future

Oh yeah Global Warming also want to play.

  7. Yes I do.

No wonder considering the fact I live in the country where even our president says there's no such thing as the global warming.

But majority of people actually isn't like this.

Do you sort out waste? Prefer using a tram to move across your town? Good!...That's the way it is here.

You could always do something more but it's also important to appreciate those little steps.

So perhaps it's a sort of "U.S. problem"...I mean America often goes to extremes and your media are much more aggressive...

Anyway, it's a bit ridiculous in the country which refuse to ratify  the Kyoto Protocol :)

  8. I completly agree, yes global warming is a problem for future generations but i think that it is overrated by scares on the news etc.

  9. I agree, and I'M an environmentalist. Certainly you can always do more, and sure there's never a limit to how green you should be. But this is the main cause of all those comments that imply that environmentalists want us all to live in a cave with no heat, no clothes and no power or appliances.

If someone's taking some kind of action no matter how small, be it recycling or driving a hybrid or walking more, they should be commended. They could always forego the whole thing and get a hummer or start wearing fur or littering.

People have to remember that it's good to be green, but there simply is no such thing as 100% zero impact. there will ALWAYS be some kind of pollution. just less of it
