I love PNH!!! My first horse and I are beginning level 3 and my second horse is in beginning-mid level 2. It's SO much fun! If you do PNH, what level are you playing with? :) Thanks!

  1. I just saw my first Parelli tour; honestly I feel any horse savvy person who's learned how to care for a horse & not just ride it instinctively knows a lot of that stuff. I personally did a lot of their stuff without knowing it or having anyone show or tell me about it w/a very difficult mare I bought years ago. I kinda just "knew" what to do to turn her around. And Parelli's say round penning ruins horses which is BS!!! If I hadn't round penned my mare to start with I wouldn't have gotten her respect & been able to do anything w/her, she was that alpha & unwilling to be w/people. The round penning was her breakthrough point & "aha" moment.

Not to mention that some of the stuff the parelli's do is strictly to show off (jumping rope on horseback for example) as nobody in their right mind would ever try that w/a horse knowing how dangerous it is. Pat himself almost got dragged due to pushing the horse when he was showing obvious, visble signs of stress over what was being done. They also have quite the marketing & merchandising racket going on with extremely inflated prices for rope halters & leads & saddle pads etc....they are just really good at taking something a lot of people knew & marketing it...

  2. Hey,

Your appaloosa how old is he my mare had 2 colts last one was in 03 and first was in 00

  3. I've taken my current horse through level 2. I enjoy parelli, but i also take ideas from other instructors and work from there. In words a fellow parelli person would understand, more arrows in my savvy quiver. ^.^ If I see another trainer use a technique that makes sense to me and uses a sense of horse phycology I don't just pass it by and say its not good enough just because it isn't parelli. There are a lot of other trainers out there that have some good ideas. I will say that out of all the natural horsemanship trainers I've studied, parelli has been the most in-depth and taught me the most. Once you're past level 1 and start to realize that the program is about much more then those 7 games, it really opens your eyes to somethings. Before starting level 2 I never realized how many threshholds my horse had. I was very good at reading my horse when the signs were clear and bigger, but i didn't notice any of those suttler but more important signs in my horses body language. Since level 2 I've really changed the way i think about things and in turn my horse and I are much more "in tune" with each other. I have a great deal of respect for parelli and his method. I mean, without it i don't think I could've servived with my horse. He was a rescue case with some serious trust issues, and i wasn't nearly capable enough to handle that. After getting through level 1, i already had a horse i could trust and gained his confidence. Since then I've actually had fun with him, instead of being afraid of him lunging out the stall to bite my face off. lol Level 2 has been fun and I plan on continuing to level 3 as well. Glad you feel as good about the program as I do!
