Question:

Does anyone else do this, like Hamlin does?

"You are not in the Chase..." or "I am a Cup Driver and you aren't..." or "I have more points than you..." added to "...so YOU need to get out of MY way!"

Does any other driver ever say things like this?

I am shocked each and every single time I hear it because one, I think it's stupid and two, I don't think anyone else says stuff like this!

It's like a couple of weeks ago at the Preakness where a jockey tried to block in Big Brown to keep him from winning and he ended up in last place. The owner of the horse was LIVID and called to apologize to Big Brown's owner and everyone else thought it was insane - at least the Joe Q. Public who commented and the paid commentors.

Aren't these guys - and jockeys for that matter - paid to WIN, no matter what? And if they can't win, to get the best place possible, no matter what? I mean not at the safety of others...don't put someone's life in danger but other than that, get home the best you can?

Isn't that the name of the game???

  1. For some reason he is trying to act like Tony and Kyle.  It isn't working for him, he should go back to his old self. At least that was more tolerable.  He is s decent driver but he shouldn't by no means think drivers should just let him pass them, that wouldn't be racing. I don't really know what happened to Denny this year, he has changed so much and not for the good either.

  2. i haven't heard anyone as blatant about his disdain for those he considers "lesser than" as hamlin does.  i mean that comment - "we don't roll like that" in the cup series he made last week - i wasn't sure whether to laugh at him or feel sorry for him.  he truly seems to think that because he managed to get to the cup series and is doing fairly well there that he is "entitled."

not even rowdy says things that sound as dumb as some of what hamlin has said.  i have heard many drivers over time talk about how they deserve more respect than, say, rookies or sometimes a chase driver will gripe about some non-chase driver ruining races for those who "have a chance to win a championship."  most non-chase drivers accept that, as many of them have said they felt that once the chase begins, there's at least two separate races going on, and they race chase drivers a little differently - as they want don't want to be known as the driver who took away "so-and-so's" championship bid.

but most of those drivers are talking about respect, not entitlement.  denny thinks he's entitled, and someone should be assigned to him at all times to ensure that he pleads the fifth anytime someone sticks a microphone and/or camera in his face.  i'm a jgr fan, but denny's attitude is far different than tony's and kyle's, and much less grounded in any sort of reality then theirs are.  that's my not-so-humble answer/opinion.

  3. I remember last year during a Busch race in Kansas, Denny was racing Paul Menard for a top 10 position with 20 or so laps to go.  Denny was trying to pass for about 2 or 3 laps, but could never make the pass.  He could not pass on the high side, he could not pass on the low side.  Finally, the broadcast gave a live feed of his communications with the spotter, and Hamlin was SCREAMING..."make him get out of me way!!!"  For some reason, Denny expected Paul to give him a top 10 spot with 20 laps to go.  Sure enough, when the caution came out, Denny gave him a shot in the back, trying to scare Paul.

Something I never understood, is why someone who calls themselves a race car driver does not like to race.  He just wants everyone to get out of his way and let him go to the front.  Since that race, I have hated Denny.  What a baby!  The real reason Denny was mad at Brad was not because of the bump he received under caution, it was because Brad was racing him hard.  This was not an isolated incident, we've seen this pattern of behavior from Denny for at least a year now.

Let's not forget Richmond when he dominated the race, then got a flat, and parked his car on the race track just to draw the caution and stay on the lead lap.  He must have thouht that he was entitled to stay on the lead lap for some reason.  What a poor sport.

If Denny wants to drive a race car, but does not like to race, he should defect to IRL.

  4. he has ruined his reputation as a virginian

burtons and sadlers must be ashamed

  5. Regardless of who does or does not say it there are a lot of drivers who thinks it. It should be true that lap down cars need to move over if they are clearly slower than the leaders. In the last 10 laps they pretty much have no chance getting back on the lead lap and winning the race any way.

There use to be "gentlemen agreements" in NASCAR where drivers knew what was acceptable an unacceptable behavior on the track. That went out the window when teams booted the veteran drivers and brought in the "young guns".

It's a learning curve for the  new drivers that's why they get up there and make stupid remarks like they do defending themselves. They are all working on the rules that are not written, but understood.

  6. Alot of them have the I can race you hard, but you can't do it back mentality, there are those that will say these younger drivers have to earn the respect and that nothing is owed to them, on the same note, the veterans are getting the I've been doing this for so long, kiss my feet syndrome. Sad but true.

Dianne, I would never give a thumbs down, don't believe in them, it's your opinion and you're entitled to it..

  7. I'd give trickem the 10 points!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

buckshot thanks for the reminder to everyone

  8. Hamlin needs to grow up and shut up, he is totally out of line, beginning to sound like a "crybaby' and 'i wanna be a BIG SHOT"

He is not as GREAT as Tony or Kyle and never will ...he just in my opinion wants to be noticed!

source: my opinion so go ahead and give me the thumbs..lol

thank you corundog..I hope I did not sound like a basher..because I am not..just do not like his whiny ways, I apologize with sincerity

Note to self:  Am insane asking for thumbs..what me thinking..time to go take more medication.....lol
