Does anyone else feel like and idiot by having to refer to a hurricane as having a proper name?

They are freaking hurricanes people! d**n, I have to say things like Gustav and Hanna(sp) so people know what I am talking about. I would think things like hurricane or tornado would be sufficient, but nooo. Someone has to be cute and give it a name.

giving them names makes it easier to track them as there can be more than one at a time. The name gives clues to where its located and where its going. If you just say hurricane you would have any additional info. But if you say hurricane gustav you're like "oh thats the one that heading..." you see what i'm saying?

I like it, some hurricanes just have the most beautiful names...:D

Do you really want to have to refer to them as some long scientific name? They use actual names to make it EASIER for you.

yea, and now i can never name my girl katrina, because it reminds me of a horrible hurricane :(

i find it hilarious to..and the great part is that most of them have woman names.but we all know why...because hurricanes resamble with women..they come in a hurry all wet and they leave with your house and car :))

Well its easier to keep track of the different hurricanes if they have a name..

I mean we don't go around calling each other "human" or "boy" or "girl".... we have names to keep us apart and different from each other, just like hurricanes..

I am called Katrina, and its kinda embaressing sometimes!
