Does anyone else feel we should ban dihydrogen monoxide?

-It is also known as hydroxl acid and is a major component of acid rain

-contributes to the 'greenhouse effect"

-contributes to the erosion of our natural landscape

-accelerates corrosion and rusting of many metals

-may cause electrical failures

-decreased effectiveness of automobile breaks

It's used as an industrial solvent and coolant, in nuclear power plants, in the production of styrofoam, as a fire retardant, in many forms of cruel animal research, in the distribution of pesticides, and even as an additive in certain "junk-foods" and other food products.

What are some thoughts. Do you think we should ban dihydrogen monoxide

  1. I do not know where you got your information by dihydrogen monoxide is the chemical name for water - H2O. Might you be referring to hydrogen peroxide - H2O2?

  2. Absolutely.  We must do everything we can to remove this dangerous substance from our environment, before The Worst happens!

  3. Yes.  Wholeheartedly.  Have you seen the MSDS for that stuff?  Yikes!  I'm scared. . . .

  4. Very old.  It shows the ignorance of the public on scientific issues, not the ignorance of the scientists.  Scientific issues can't be determined by people who don't have the background to make informed interpretations.  The uninformed  reactions of the few who are not expert in a field (like deniers) should not be used to obscure the interpretations of experts (like climatologist) who have actually studied many aspects of a problem for many years.  It is like saying you don't need a cardiologist to do bypass surgery because your mother knows how to treat a cold and she thinks you don't need bypass surgery - the ache in your chest is just growing pains.

Fortunately, the policy makers know this and action to limit greenhouse gases is going forward with the next US president.  If new information is found that indicates actions are not needed or less extreme actions are sufficient, we can back off then.  The evidence at this point in time indicates a severe problem that cannot be quickly corrected is looming and action is needed. Society will still benefit from the technologies that arise and the decrease in general atmospheric pollution.

  5. Actually, despite what Dr Jello says, there are some people in this group that are so woefully ignorant of science that they might be fooled.  Surprised you didn't fool him!

I would have called it hydrogen hydroxide.

  6. Oh yeah, so much fun.  You forgot to add that it's used in a now infamous form of (not torture).  Dihydrogen monoxide boarding.

  7. I am not making this up:  it is listed in authoritative scientific textbooks as "mildly toxic".

  8. No way ! ..... Nice try .

  9. NO== ALL US SCIENTIST CONCURRED THAT GLOBAL WARMING IS'NT CAUSED BY MAN AND THAT ALL NON-SOLIDS DECIPATE WITHIN 500 FEET. NO HARM ABOVE.

  10. Well at least the MSDS sheet should be posted at every water faucet for all to know its dangers.

  11. This is too old to get anyone.  Everyone knows this is water.
