My boyfriend is 20 years old, and his mom has been buying him beer and drinking with him since he was 18. It bothers me very much because i find this very trashy.

Why would a mom drink with her son when he is 18 years old?!? not to mention she is a probation officer!

I strongly disagree with heavy drinking and find this a real problem. Does anyone else have issues with this? where do you stand?

  1. No in Texas you can drink at 16 under parental supervision.I think its great that she drank with him because he wouldn't have to sneak around to drink and she could still monitor his drinking

  2. It is not uncommon in some cultures to allow children to have a beer or glass of time with dinner or to have a couple of beers at a social function when it is just family.

If the drinking really bothers you perhaps you need to look at finding a nice boy who does not drink.

Does he get stumbling drunk when he drinks?  Does he do stupid things, or not remember what he does?

IF not he probably isn't going to stop drinking just because you have issues with it.  If he were 15 or 16 there would be a problem but he is very close to legal age.

Have you told him drinking alcohol is an issue with you?  Perhaps you don't like drinking at all and it is only fair to let him know where you stand.  There are lots of guys in this world who do not drink at all.

  3. There is nothing wrong with her doing that at all. 18 should be the drinking age as he is a legal adult at that age and I say good on her!

  4. That's inappropriate, sets a bad example, and is illegal. I've heard of parents who do that, and I think it's wrong.

  5. Her take on it is she knows he would probably go out and drink. This way, she can control how much he does drink and at least he is home doing it. no drinking and driving, and no way to get caught, he is home doing it.

The problem that is going on is she is encouraging him to drink. This could do one of two things. One, it could turn him into an alcoholic. Or, two, he could not want to drink anymore.

When I was younger, I did drink underage. When I turned 21, I still drank, but I knew what it was like to drink, so it wans't all that big of deal to me. I could just do it legally. Then, about 5 years later, I cut way back. Now, I drink maybe once a year. So, he could end up not drinking at all when he is older.

  6. Not really.  I think this is far more common in other countries, which doesnt have the extent of binge drinking problems the US does.

  7. .. no i dont agree that a mother would bring beer home to sit there and get drunk with her son

  8. although he is 20 years old he still under the legal age for drinking. she should know better and she is in the wrong to supply him beer.

  9. At 18, one is an adult and they should be allowed the right to have a beer or two. If you're mature enough to star in p**n, be a stripper, go to war, get married, drive, own property, pay bills, and be tried as an adult in court, then you should be considered mature enough to have a beer.

Unless your boyfriend is an alcoholic, I see nothing wrong with it. He's an adult, not a child. If she were providing alcohol to a 12 year-old, then I'd intervene.

  10. who cares hes 20!! HES OLD ENOUGHH!!

  11. those are not good parentong skills

  12. No. This has been going on in one form or another for many years. Some parents are having a difficult time separating their role as a parent from that of a friend to their child, especially when things are not working out for them. No great friend or relationships. One could say that any parent who does that is abusing their children. She is satisfying her wants while sacrificing her child.

  13. there is nothing wrong with it. and it's legal to drink at home with your parents.

and obviously if she allows him to drink at home then its not like he's going out drinking on the town instead.

my parents used to let us have a drink (only 1 or 2) at 16 or so.

and 20 years old here is 2 years beyond being legally allowed to drink, so i don't find it offensive at all.

  14. Yes awkward! I know a guy whos mom goes to his parties and gets wasted with him and his friends.  And then gets baked on weed with him and his friends as well

He is just out of high school

"They have a good relationship" everyone says.  Yeah, too good I think.  Shes being too much like a friend and not at all like a mother.  Its irresponsible and pathetic
