I feel like an observer in my own home, even my own thoughts sometimes! I'll be thinking something or participating in something while I'll also be labeling it, classifying it and explain it in anthropological terms like some sort of alien. Wow, I really love anthro!

  1. Have you ever tried to get in touch with the Neanderthal in you?  Now that's really fun.

  2. It is an awesome tool huh?  I find that I cannot prevent myself from playing observer (even participant observer) all the time.  I was at dinner with two friends of mine the other week (I just moved to Taiwan so both are Taiwanese and both are female and I had only known them a week or two) we were talking and eating and then one girl's cell phone rings and she walks outside to answer it.  I ask the other girl who 'he' is.  She asked me why I thought it was a guy.  I told her, if it was her mom she would have ignored it, if it was a regular friend she would have answered at the table because I don't speak Chinese, so it had to be someone she didn't want the other girl to hear her talking to therefore it was an ex she was fighting with or a guy she was interested in.  The second girl refused to say anything so when the girl came back from the phone call I asked her who 'he' was and what do you know it was a guy she had met at work that she was going on a date with.  The two girls work together so it is little wonder she did not want her friend and co-worker to hear the conversation.

Just one of the many stories from my last 6 weeks (the time I have been in Taiwan) where Anthropology has given me an edge.

  3. Yes, I also find that in any given conversation, I'll continually interrupt myself to define my terms.

  4. Study some science and your brain will straighten out. You will find that the concepts formed in evolutionary biology hold much more coherence than social science can even intimate.

  5. man science always warps your brain.

it is the truth and it is why social people are still sane

  6. The excessive anti-Western civilization radical feminist proto-socialist pro-Islamist pro-war mentality got to me.  It forced me into a study of Arab internationalist rejectionism.  I hated all of it.  I was called 'ethnocentric, judgmental and derisive' for criticizing Islamic fundamentalism, Arab racism and terrorism as if they were examples of tolerance in the world.  Hoo hooo.  couldn't these words have been used to describe both the Arab fundamentalists and the professor?

  7. Ah but did the science warp your brain or did you already have a warped brain that gravitated to Social sciences :)

It's kind of like singers in Rock bands. Do you have to be at least a little crazy to sing in a rock band or does singing in a Rock band make you crazy? :)

  8. I think, therefore I am.
