Does anyone else get nervous at those really fancy restaurants?

I love going out to eat but I find those fancy restaurants really intimidating. But my bf is used to going out to those places, he grew up in that environment so he's completely at home. He knows exactly what to order, how to pronounce everything, etc. While I grew up with resturants such as Red Lobster, TGIF, melting pot, etc. Not that fancy. Whenever we go to those places, I never have a good time cause I'm convinced everyone's judging me based on what i'm wearing, ordering, acting, etc. And I always make an *** of myself cause I can't pronounce anything :(

Is anyone else like this?

  1. yeah i hate going to fancy places its just not me i grew up in a little town all we had was a dairy queen, there thats was considered fancy then when we moved to new york i was like the outcast it was bad fancy resterauts are just not for some people

  2. I like to dress up in jeans and a T-shirt at these restuarants and eat like a pig, so to answer your question I am not the least bit nervous at these restaurants.

  3. I am nervous of course, than other places like TGIF or something, but not enough to think, goodness, I need to remember my poise...etc, b/c afterall, it's just a place we all came to eat. well. "rich" fancy people came to eat.

  4. Years ago when I was a young buck wanting to impress girls, I would often take them out to really fancy restaurants, but was I ever nervous?  Are you kidding?  I was often terrified.  But mind you now, I always kept a cool tool in the motor pool; you know, one of those real suave characters that could fit in with the elite.  However, what really would unravel me were the times when I would look down at the prices and think, “Holy crappola!  I can hardly pay for my own meal.  If she orders the lobster thermador I’m sunk!”  Fortunately those days are gone.  Now that I’m married my wife gets to be one that worries.  After all, she’s the one that generally is hanging onto my wallet!

  5. yea i am its weird im soo afraid like im going to say it wrong or im going too break something

  6. I am. I'm afraid to touch anything cause i don't want to break it

  7. I have no problem admitting I cannot pronounce something.  Relax.  Be yourself and enjoy the meal.  No one is watching you, honest!  Everyone around you is too busy enjoying the meals they ordered and the company they're with to look for slips in etiquette at other tables.  And if they are?  Then they're the ones who are etiquette-challenged.

  8. Your love is life! You love to live it, so embrace every moment with confidence and lust. Do not be afraid of the unknown. It it only something you haven't experienced. Once we try we know. You know yourself and what you like. Be inquisitive, ask, question, act interested and you can't loose.

Your BF is using this opportunity to be brave and impotent. He is showing his machismo, by taking you somewhere intimidating. If it bothers you then get learned on the subject. Go on line and learn their menu and what it means. Or read a fancy cookbook. Stay relaxed and have the waiter make suggestions. Keep learning. Create Early Bliss.

  9. I went to one a few days ago for my birthday and I was a mess! I was dropping my silver wear and stuttering and everything! It was a fancy German restaurant and when a lady came to me and spoke to me in German, even though I'm learning it, completely froze up and said all of these wrong, random words! It was horrible. Nice to know I'm not the only one like that!
