ok i am a great actress especially at doing drama or action/adventure

but for some reason i have a hard time being myself and slating........i dont know why im more comfortable being other characters then simply stating my name agency and age! my voice can become shaky at times when im giving a speech about myself but im not too bad in the nervous department

does anyone else find it more difficult to just talk about yourself and slate then to act???

  1. ok you are not a great actress, you are working on it.  IT is difficult for a lot of actors to learn to love the camera. Write out your speech about yourself and memorize it and give it like a monologue, Get an inexpensive digital video camera and practice slating at home. Learn to make the camera your friend, emulate good tv newscasters.

  2. yepp im the same way too! its like i get more nervous in the real world than i do on stage acting. but with more practice youll be more comfortable (: best of luck!

  3. first and formost...people who initiate a question about how they CAN'T do something should NOT brag about how great they are, no matter who has told you what about yourself. be humble...you don't have to prove anything but to yourself and you saying that before you ever got to the question makes me not want to help you or offer advice...you know, because you are SO great and all. plus you having to ask professional adivce, online to a bunch of strangers tends to negate the greatness you speak of. if you notice, the people who are good never have to say so...they just are. simply friendly advice...sorry if it sounded too critical.

now, that being said...have you ever heard of "taking the stage"? as a stage actress, we were taught this for auditions. when you do a cattle call for 100 theatre companies, along with around 1000 other auditioners and you only have a 90 sec monologue, they gave us specific training on how to simply enter the stage for that monologue called "taking the stage". it's simply getting your brain focused on introducing yourself. instead of thinking about how it makes you feel, focus on the techinical apects of what you're doing...ground yourself in your intentions. that maybe why you're nervous: when you're acting, you have goals/intentions so you're motivated. when you're simply having to be yourself, you have no concrete goal. so refocus. for your slate, this is where people are seeing you for the first time so treate it like you're about to meet them in a bar with a handshake. it's the same thing, just a little different BUT it's the intention behind it that's gonig to help. practice walking to a mark, confidently, stopping on mark, grounding yourself (take a beat to make eye contact & make sure all eyes are on you - taking stage/focus). when you say you're name, it's merely an introduction but it's also a moment where directors see the human behind the machine so give them your personality too. i like to smile and give a lot of eye contact, which some actors find very difficult to do. after intro, take a hot second to recollect, take a breath, and into the monologue. practice this like a monologue or a scene. you want to move smoothly and confindently...you can do it. good luck.

    that being said

  4. you're really annoying you're always bragging about  how you do this and that, yet you need help.

    Anyways, practice makes perfect

  5. YES i do too . i love playing other people too.

it's because you do acting, and your playing another character we didn't sign up to play ourselves.... if that makes any sense. hahah
