My Royal is a couple of months old and everybody says that when you get a new python and stick them in the cage, they will go and hide for a while until they get used to their new environment. This could be a week and I know someone who told me their python did not come out for 6 weeks. I have got plenty of hiding places for my snake - a cave at each end and branches through out with vines and stuff to hide behind. Since putting my snake in the viv she has been cruising about having a great time and hasn't hid at all. If you go and look inside she curls her head away so you can't see it but that's it. I'm not complaining, as it's brilliant having a snake that roams about loads but has anyone else got a very active python? Maybe she's out on the hunt for food? Even during the day she won't be hiding, she will be very visible hanging from a branch

  1. When one of mine were very young he was the same, even as an adult he much prefers to be hanging from branches or wandering around.

  2. yes, when I woke up this morning it was massive and tried to crush me, I managed to fight it off.

  3. I had a blood python until recently, she was very active in the evenings, she did laps of her tank :) I also have a rat snake who is very active, day and night and never hides. I think snake personalities differ, theyre not always as the book says. Its nice to have an active playful snake. Maybe yours would like new play things to investigate occasionally, a slight change in the vivarium furniture always got mine going! Not too much that it freaks em out though.

  4. yes

  5. I have a python much like this. He is the youngest of my collection, about one year old. When I got him, a six weeks, he would cruise around the tank and hang from plants facing down. He even took to lounging on top of the thermometers. After a week, when I went to handle him he was pretty much calm natured, balled up for about two seconds and then resumed his exploring quest.

I don't see anything wrong with it, just a very curious python indulging on its enviroment.

  6. I have a white lipped python that is very active. In warm weather a growing snake will eat a few times a week and be out on the hunt a lot.

In the winter he slows down a bit.

In my experience female snakes tend to be more active and better eaters/hunters than males.

more aggressive...generally, not always, but most of the time.

glad you are having a good experience
