  1. I am trying to conceive and my husband and i both agree that home-school will be the best option for our children. We want to start early. I know homeschoolers and can see a big difference in positive socialization, academic performance, closeness to family, better manners and less aggression and anger, and lots of time for activities the child really wants to be involved in.  We have decided on the Classical Educational model starting the child in Latin very early so I am studying Latin now. a good site to learn about this method is:

a great site for why to homeschool: so much information!

you have to do what is best for you and your family. Search for a homeschool group in your area and call them...it will really help to have some local support and to see for yourself the amazing children and parents who homeschool!

EDIT: I found this great video series on you tube...

also if you are serious about homeschooling do check out the homeschool legal defense association. I do recommend joining it is a great resource and support group!

    GOOD LUCK!

  2. As a mother of an 8-year-old daughter, I have been half-homeschooling her since the beginning of this 2nd-grade school year in August, because public schools have cut school hours and programs due to the budget-cut implemented by the Bush Administration.  As tiring as it feels (sleeping only 2 hours every week night, weekends are much relieved), since I work at home and pursuing a law school education, facilitating my own after-school academic curriculum for her has helped her grow 8 levels in every subject since last August.  But I opt for only half-schooling because I want to take advantage of maximizing my tax dollars; and kids still need the public learning environment to cultivate their SOCIAL COMMUNICATION skills, essential for future employment opportunities, which cannot be taught one-on-one at home.  Just get some books on comprehensive teaching curriculum, stamped as state-standardized on the covers, for every subject, available at local bookstores for every grade level, such as Barnes&Noble.  Or even check other local bookstores that specialize in selling teaching materials specifically for school teachers, which regular bookstores do not have, such as teaching foreign languages.  Local college campus bookstores are another great source for books for teaching majors, but you can still buy them even though you're not an on-campus student.  As parents, it is well worth the effort to take this proactive action in facilitating our kids education.  Besides, it's a great way to maintain a positive close relationship with our kids, showing them how much we really do care, so that by the time they're preteens, they'll be less likely to get into drugs.  As Dr. Phil has once said, "As parents, we might not be the only influence on our kids, but we want to be the BEST influence."

  3. I have 3 young kids, ages 1, 4 and 6 and I have recently decided to home school my 6 year old mostly because the public schools right now are c**p. Another reason is that the kids at his school were just mean and he came home everyday crying. Now he's at home, thriving!! I'm glad that I made the right decision for him.

However, my 4 year old goes to preschool 2x a week. He's supposed to go to Kindergarten next school year. He will go to public kindergarten because I think that preschool & kindergarten offer young ones a fun, lively, multi-activity environment that I just can't replicate at home. Plus it's not until 1st grade that the sub-standard education really begins. (Teaching to the TEST, etc.)

  4. Who else's sake would matter?

You do it for the kids. It is the best thing we ever did for our child.

  5. 3 boys, ages 5 to 11, and all are homeschooled.

the 11 year old, goes to a library group composed of mostly jr high student council and honor students and he is equal or beyond each of them in academics.

homeschooling i believe does provide the children a more controlled environment in which their personalities and standards can develop.  They cannot be sheltered from the world, but can certainly be taught that they have the ability to make their own choices, given a bedrock of values/beliefs to accept/reject, and socially able to resist peer pressure.

  6. When my children were younger, that's how I felt. Now that they're officially homeschooled, I still think homeschooling is the best option for their sake.

  7. My kids are 6,8 and 10 . We've home schooled for over a year now and are loving it. There are so many positive aspects !

Do some reading and research, attend a home school conference, and find a home school group in your area to learn more.

All the best  to you and yours!
