Question:

Does anyone else kind of secretly like it when their baby is sick?

Please don't jump down my throat; I don't mean this in a hateful way, nor would I like it if my kid had a life-threatening illness or was suffering terribly.

He only has a bit of a runny nose, a mild cold that's just enough to mellow him out and make him all quiet and calm and super-duper extra cuddly. He is taking his second nap of the day on my lap, something he would never do if he wasn't a bit under the weather.

To be honest, it's kind of sweet, and I'm kind of enjoying it. I also love when my oldest stays out of school with the flu, and I can snuggle with him all day, eating soup and watching movies and scratching his back.

Anyone else fel the same way, or am I the worst mom on Earth for enjoying my baby's cold?

  1. I LOVE cuddle days. Even at 6 months Em is so independent now. She doesn't rest her little head on my shoulder anymore and as soon as she's awake she needs non-stop entertainment. I just love lying with her and rubbing her head and back and making googly eyes at each other!

  2. cant say that i do.

my son just caught his dad's cold, and is miserable.

    not fun.

he isnt sleeping at night and neither am i.

im a stay at home mom and my husband works nights, so im delaing with it all day and all night by myself.

i cant imagine saying woohoo my kid has a cold!

  3. I agree with you 100%...I love the cuddle days..My baby was never much of a cuddler and I love the days when he is a little under the weather and wanting nothing but mommy and her cuddles(aka b***s as pillows LMAO) so NO you are NOT the worse mom on Earth...

  4. Mine haven't been sick yet, so I'm not sure

  5. Maybe I'm some kind of freak, but I feel the same way.  More so when they're toddlers!  It's nice to just be able to cuddle all day and have a good excuse for it. :-)

  6. its not so much the cold but your desire to be a nurturing mother. you like it when your wanted im the same way.  as long as you dont wish something horrible its normal. you enjoy the company and when kids are sick they always want ther mommy.

  7. well at first before i read your explanation i was like wow wtf, but i think i know what you mean, and i think it's cute. really theres nothing wrong with enjoying what the cold brings lol.

  8. I just had my first, so he is still cuddly, but you are not alone.  One of first things my sister-in-law reported is that it is the best when they get just a little sick and are contented to be cuddled all day long.  She said it wistfully, with a lot of longing in her eyes, so I knew she meant it from a warm loving place.  She also happens to be the mother I idolize - I'm not sure I'll ever be as patient and invested in her kids as she is - so you aren't a bad person just for enjoying the same thing.

  9. Well you aren't really enjoying the cold, you are just enjoying those quiet moments that are oh so rare. My son is not much of a snuggler. Being a VERY active 18 month old doesn't lend itself to snuggling, so when he gets a little cold and wants to sit with me all day, of course I enjoy the closeness. It reminds me that he really does need me regardless of his independent streak. In my opinion you'd be a terrible mom if you didn't enjoy the sickie snuggles.

  10. i wouldnt say you are the worst mom, but you certainly are not all the ticket,

  11. You bad mom! LOL, seriously you sound so cute...where have you been? we miss you

  12. Nah, I think you're perfectly normal. Of course no one wants their child to be sick, but it's kinda nice to have them be cuddly and want you and only you. "Only Mommy makes the boo-boos better!" I still want my mommy when I'm sick and I'm the mother of 2 and almost 30! LOL The 1st day is great, but any more than that and I'm ready for them to be better! LOL

  13. I understand exactly what you mean. Both my boys are way to active to give mom her needed snuggling time. I like the snuggle time

  14. It's the thought of being able to be close and take care of your kids.  You know you have it in you to do so.  So it's comforting for you to spend that lovely time with them.  I like it also when I get to stay home from work and take care of a ill child.  It goes to show you how much you love your kids.  I hope he gets better soon.

  15. I totally hear ya on this one!  I selfishly love to call in to work and spend the day with my baby.  Some of the best memories I have are when I was sick and my mom stayed home to take care of me.  Soup, bath, movies, and a LOT of tlc.....  :)

  16. My son has never been sick yet. Thank god for that. But I do love when he is super tired and curls up next to me and falls alseep, which hasnt been too many times, but I love it!

  17. its not that you like it when he is sick, its just that you like the "down time"....you have worded this way wrong and it makes you seem like a terrible person....if your baby is under the weather then he is not feeling well at all and wishing any kind of discomfort on your child especially for such selfish reasons is just cruel

  18. Yeah, I know where you're coming from..... until I'm up all night long holding her upright to unblock her nose. lol
