Question:

Does anyone else notice how many people here are writing books?

To me, it seems like more and more people have been getting into writing/reading. I've seen more "Read the first part of my book" topics in the past few months than I have in all of the years previous.

Anyone know why?

(Don't get me wrong, it's a good thing. I'm just curious as to what started this trend.)

  1. I've noticed, and frankly am concerned. People are getting their hopes up, and are throwing out stories that need so much work! Writing and publishing any book is harder than lots of people think. They need to have a talent, and must be willing to revise and accept criticism. Not everyone can write, and those who can should keep their stories to themselves if they want to protect their ideas.

  2. its pretty sweet

we definetly need a writing section

    THAT would be awsome

  3. It might have something to do with the amount of young writers who have been published recently. Teens see that and get more hopeful about their own writing. Also, maybe more people are reading in general, since reading a good book often inspires people to write.

  4. pointyea, I agree w/ you for the most part.  However, sometimes the one thing that you have to struggle w/ is worth the most.  You learn to appreciate the intricacies of integrating characters into the plot.  That doesn't even begin to take into account writing terse yet flowing believable dialog.  The entire time you're learning grammar, spelling, punctuation, sentence structure, everything you never bothered to learn in school.  Senses are heightened just by listening to the rhythm or cadence of others people's speech.  Your aware of your surroundings & start to describe things in your mind.

Granted there are a lot of bad writers out there, but if it becomes a hobby they enjoy & may get satisfaction from, then what's the harm?  We only have to worry when trashy series keep getting published.

  5. It might have to do with the Twilight series. I'm guessing it could have inspired young teens to pursue writing. I just hope they know publishing is a very hard process. There's a chance none of the people on here will get published. That's reality for you.

I'm not being pessimistic, I'm just stating the obvious.

  6. I think it has to do with the economy.   With young people, a lot of parents can't afford to dole out the money like they did a couple of years ago for the kids to go to the mall and run around.  Gas is more expensive and going to the movies will cost an arm and a leg.  I'd rather stay at home and find something creative to do.  You know, like write a book.   ;)

  7. Second and Third answers are right... at least in my case. Im writing a story, (Im on page 54) because of Stephenie Meyer. So are all of my friends.

And we do know how hard the editing and publishing process is. I don't plan to have my book published. Im just in it to see if I have it in me to write a book, and I'm starting to think I do. I really love it and I'm really into it.

It's kinda like if a house-wife of three children can do it, so can I. Same with J.K. Rowling and many other authors. I don't like to compare the two, but that's both what they have in common. We're young, it's a new century, nearing a new decade, anything's possible. Get it?

  8. lol, good question. Many new authors here could have been inspired by S. Meyer. There are so many great fans out there, I'm sure she started some of the trend. And other great authors inspired other new authors. And others could have migrated here because they saw others writing things like "Do you like this story?" or "Read the first part of this book" or "How much do you like this novel I'm writing" or "Rate my story from 1 to10" ...the list goes on and on and on...Maybe others who were already here doing that, just became noticable once this 'trend' became popular.

    =D

  9. Writing isn't just to entertain but it's also a profession. Writers do quite not to speak verbally but they communicate with other through the internet.

It's good to know that there were many writers.
