Question:

Does anyone else support moving the pellet/bb/airguns to a separate heading from hunting?

If we ask the answers folks maybe we could separate these questions to their own group under outdoor recreation instead of hunting. If you support such an idea let answers know.

  1. AMEN, I've been preaching this for months!!

I think it is an excellent suggestion. You get a star!!

  2. That would be nice.  I also think regular gun related questions should have their own heading also.  Or even break it down to range shooting also would be nice.

  3. Yes, I'm getting tired of the airsoft and BB-gun questions in hunting categories. I think they should maybe do something like you're saying. They would probably get more and better responses in their own forum.

Obviously they are welcome here, but this is a hunting forum. I don't think anyone condones hunting anything with airsoft.

  4. I second that motion.

  5. This is a years old idea that ain't gonna happen.

Besides, these kids are the next generation of hunters and gun owners. Don't be too quick to alienate them. If they decide we're all a bunch of jerks, they're liable to turn on us and join PETA.  Where will the next generation of hunters and gun owners come from then?

Besides, if you count how few questions on here are actual hunting questions, and you eliminate the others, We might lose the Hunting section altogether!

  6. What I would support is the creation of an "Aimed Projectile Sports" catagory, directly under Sports, with the subcatagories:

    Hunting

    Shooting

    Archery

    Airguns, Airsoft, and Paintball

    Other Aimed Projectiles

  7. It is a good idea in concept, but I can guarantee half of the questions that should be there will still end up here.

  8. If you're going to do that then you'd also have to give firearms questions their own separate section since there are a lot of firearms questions in this section which have NOTHING to do with hunting. (Essentially all the self defense, what's it worth, do you like, target shooting, accuracy... types of questions don't belong on this board since they're not hunting questions.) Of course no one is clamoring to do that.

The fact is there are a pretty fair number of air gun questions where people are asking if a certain air gun is legal/is powerful enough to hunt a certain animal. Even the general air gun questions fit here as much as the non-hunting firearms questions and the ones pertaining to hunting actually fit here better than the non-firearms questions. If you don't like looking at them, then ignore them. After all you don't HAVE to read them or even pay them any attention.

    Edit:

As I thought about this further, I realized something else worth mentioning. The people asking air gun questions are usually young. Say 10-14. These people are the future of the shooting sports. Instead of trying to drive them off, we should be doing everything we can to try and get them interesting in shooting sports and keep them interested since active shooters and hunters ensure the continuation of the shooting sports. If that means putting up with questions some of us may think are silly or don't really belong here, then that's a small price to pay to ensure the shooting sports continue to thrive in America.

  9. has been tried before........not going to happen......once school is back in they will drop down a bunch

  10. i completely agree, and i would also like to see a general firearms section. i just asked a question about what i should look into for my first gun, and i felt bad about putting it in the hunting section, but if i put it anywhere else, I'd face a boatload of liberals telling me that guns are bad, and that a 14 year old has no need for a gun.
