I wasn't thinking and I bought a coffee maker that is a cone filter and the cone filters are more expensive. So I thought a permanent filter would be good for the enverionment and save me money. But I think the coffee has more of a bitter taste. Has anyone else had that problem?

  1. Actually, yes. In my instance, I believe it is due to the hard water in our area. I think some of the particles from the hard water build up in the filter. Not proven, just my thought.

  2. In my experience, the bitter taste is the results of too fine of a grind or burnt coffee beans as in Charbucks.

Sometimes the bitter flavor can be a results of the water being too hot, but since you are using a coffee maker, (probably NOT a TECHNIVORM) I seriously doubt that this is the case. Most Chinese made coffee makers will be hard pressed to make it to 165 degrees.

I use a SWISS GOLD filter and I have no problems with the taste, especially since I roast my own coffee and avoid the burnt brands.

  3. yes- and it's messy-  I started buying the brown paper (ie recycled paper) filters, & putting them inside the permanent filter . . . tastes better, & not as bad for environment . . .

  4. Add salt , it takes away the bitterness

  5. Add a little bit of salt to the coffee - that can take away the bitterness.
