Question:

Does anyone else think it takes more skill to tell a clean joke and still get laughs?

Anybody can use perverse, profane language while trying to be funny. Do you agree that it takes more skill/creativity to tell a joke that wouldn't corrupt an innocent child's morale and still be laugh-out-loud funny?

  1. yes it takes more skill to make up / tell a good clean joke

  2. Here's a good example, I posted it five days ago, and got 31 responses, all positive:-

Two babies were sitting in their cribs, when one baby shouted to the other, "Are you a little girl or a little boy?" "I don't know," replied the other baby giggling.

"What do you mean, you don't know?" said the first baby. "I mean I don't know how to tell the difference," was the reply.

"Well, I do," said the first baby chuckling, "I'll climb into your crib and find out."

He carefully got himself into the other baby's crib, then quickly disappeared in to the blankets. After a couple of minutes, he resurfaced with a big smile on his face. "You're a little girl, and I'm a little boy," he said proudly.

"You're ever so clever," said the baby girl, "but how can you tell?"

"It's quite easy really," replied the baby boy, "you've got pink socks and I've got blue ones."

  3.    Agree.  Most of the best jokes are simplistic.  The better ones need a bit of thought.  But anything that uses swear words in it is for gimps.

Profanity is used by people who cannot express themselves otherwise.  Don't get me wrong.  I have a repertoire of jokes, some of which have strong words in the punch line, which would lose some of their impact if I substituted another word.

But the majority of jokes I hear do not need swear words, and are not particularly funny when the rude word(s) are/is removed.

I very seldom tell a joke that I would not repeat to my grandchildren - but I still get plenty of laughs.

After 12 years in the navy, I do not consider myself a prude.  But I do think I have a highly sharpened sense of humour.

A good, and unusual thought-provoking question.  Tks.

  4. Cracking Joke is easy just say things which is never going to happen or hard to imagine, dont crack it on someone crack it on yourself.

  5. I've got one that I crack up at every time I tell :D

It is not a written joke so you'll have to say it out loud.

Q: What do you call a fish without an "eye"?

    A:  FSHHHHHHH

    ( eye= i removed from word fish)

it's not the same in writing :(

  6. Of course it takes skill to write none smutty jokes, but the profanity ones are funnier.

  7. There was this radio announcer interviewing people on the street and he stopped this one guy and asked him what he did for a living.  He stated that he didn't have to work that he was a Millionaire.  The announcer asked him "What do you contribute this too?"  He stated "MY Wife" then the announcer asked him what were you before you became a millionaire and he stated I was a billionaire.

I not sure it takes more skill, some people just can't laugh unless it is a dirty joke and that is sad.  Many people feel that the joke must be somewhat dirty to be really funny.  I guess if that your mind is that way then you are missing so very much.  I have to agree with you and only because there are so many people are like that and that is morally very disheartening.
