Yes, I know that the name PETA is synonymous with the word stupid, but I just wanted other people's opinions about this.

  1. Next thing you know PETA will put in a partition to ban animal mascots from sports because of defamation of character!!!!

  2. I answered a similar question earlier. PETA is loony. Hypocrites all.

Their president has stated that domesticated animals should become extinct.

If the racing world even thinks there was a chance that the jockey did something wrong there will be no need to suspend him. He will never get another mount.

  3. I would say greedy more than stupid. If this had been some joe-blow non televised race, they wouldn't have sent a letter of demands to anyone, but since its a high profile race like the Kentucky derby, they merely thought to take advantage of a sad situation and win over some people to send them some donation money.

  4. No. I think its a good cause.

  5. I wasn't aware that PETA wanted the jockey suspended. Please give me more information.

  6. PETA is totally out of line on this one. They (Peta) are now making allegations that the horse Eight Belles was injured prior to the race, and that the jockey knowingly rode an injured horse in The Derby. How could they know that without access to the owner's records on the horse? If I was the owner, and Peta was making these allegations, I'd file suit against Peta for defamation. PETA needs to butt out.

  7. Yep.

No one was out there screaming for my gymnastics coach to be suspended when I broke MY ankle.

As usual, 'stupid' is out there, poking there head in where they're not wanted or needed. So what else is new?

  8. PETA is the front for a terrorist group anyway, so being reasonable is not their strong point.

  9. If PETA had their way, no one would be able to have a pet.

    They're clueless.  Completely clueless.

  10. i support peta but sometimes they do take things too far. i dont think it is right to blame the jockey for Eight Belles death. it was an accident. i think they should focus on how these horses are bred at such a young age.

  11. Hey Geekluv, your name says it all. PETA is not synonymous with stupid that would be your mother for having you. What they represent is decency and compassion, possibly a foreign term to you. Watch the race. The 20 year old jockey was as stuopid and selfish as the poor horse's trainer and owner. He was whipping the horse and egging her on AFTER the d**n race was done. He's a moron and should never be allowed to race again.

  12. no    i think im kinda in the middle

  13. Yes

  14. PETA is truly a sick organization tha will stop no less than total animal liberation which is silly. They are unwilling for compromises because everyone must feel the way that they do.

Pam Anderson is one of their spokesmen...what does she know

  15. Yes, its dumb. It hurt my heart to see the poor horse in pain and euthanized...but that kind of injury can be sustain in that sport. It happens.

  16. PETA = stupid?   I don't think they are stupid.  They do take a point of view that focuses solely on the animals - even sometimes against reasonableness.

They believe Eight Bells was injured earlier in the race and her jockey ignored the injury.  Jockey's are actually very compassionate people.  Horses are their livelihood.

PETA is simply raising some people's consciousness about the safety of the racing business.  For the most part people do need to know more about the business of horse racing - like what happens to the thousands of horses who never win a race, or get too old, or are killed for insurance.

Attacking the jockey just doesn't make any sense to me.

It was a very sad day.  I was happy for Big Brown, but, I wish the media told us more about what happened to Eight Bells.

  17. People stopped wearing fur coats in public and PETA needed another "scapegoat" issue for which to anger honest, intelligent Americans.....

PETA is another group that consists of liberal leftist extremists..... They splash "red paint" symbolizing blood on people that wear leather or fur clothing..... They hold "die-ins" and practice civil disobedience when protesting stuff like "dead cockroaches", "circus animal behavior" or "bird habitats" are threatened.....

I feel sorry for the horse, but considering they cannot be easily "repaired" or fitted with prostetics like humans when broken limbs occur, freak accidents such as this and the one that occurred to Barbero are unfortunate, but PETA always has to point fingers and blame others when accidents do happen and the trainers/jockeys don't hurt their animals on purpose.

The world would be a better place if PETA and Greenpeace just concentrates on preserving the wildlife of the world and not wasting their time on issues that don't have to do with animal abuse.

  18. I agree with Marielle. I think the real issue is awareness. All animal lovers want animals to be a part of their life, to bond with, be part of their herd, pack or whatever the relationship. Noone wants that taken away from them.  I first became aware of PETA in Los Angeles many years ago when they exposed the extreme animal cruelty involved in cosmetic testing. No true animal lover could stand by and not take a stand with that knoweldge in hand. I had not been aware. I as well as many others made changes in how we spent our money. PETA made a massive contribution to the changes made in that industry. I love horses, horse racing, etc. however, I and friends constantly rescue broken down thoroughbreds, amazing animals some huge with the sweetest temparaments imaginable. They are horse racing throw aways - not fast enough, or injured. There is no more glory for these animals then. Many end up in slaughterhouses on dinner plates in Europe and Asia. The breakdowns are inherent in horse racing! Perhaps we need to question why instead of accepting the status quo - that it is what it is. I think we need to question, enlighten as many people as possible so that the amazing sport continues and injuries reduced. Things are changing everywhere, how about a little change in horse racing. We continuously improve our IPOD's. Surely we should continuously improve this sport. It is after all the 21st century. Sometimes we need to let go of tradition and change.

  19. PETA is a radical group who uses Animal Rights as an excuse to hide its own brand of terrorism behind.

The breakdown of Eight Belles was not the jockey's fault, if anything it may be at least partly due to genetic factors.

Racehorses with such injuries are usually euthanized because of the major difficulties encountered in trying to save them.  For example, Ruffian underwent hours of surgery, and as she was waking up from anesthetic, started thrashing and tore all the cast off her leg and undid the surgery and damaged the leg worse than it was damaged before the surgery.  The vets felt she would never survive going through another surgery, so she was euthanized.  A horse with two broken front legs would have no second leg to shift weight to while the other one heals, although the second leg can develop problems from the added stress of compensating for the broken limb, as happened with Barbaro when he developed laminitis in his good hind leg.  The likelihood of infection in such injuries is very high as well..as you can see from the long ordeal of trying to save Barbaro, the odds are much against success, and the effort to save Barbaro was tremendous.

  20. ya and i think that there stupid for running perfectly good fur coats with red paint

  21. absolutely, Saez did nothing wrong, all he did was guide the filly with the whip so she did,nt crash into the rail, plus that whip does,nt hurt the horse at all unless it,s excessive.

peta people are a little neurotic......

    god bless 8 belles

    later, THOMAS THE HANDICAPPER

  22. peta is not fighting for the right animal problems

what about attacking the racing industry for racing 2 year olds??? that might be a worthier fight to fight for

    or animal abuse

people dont feed, hit, dump their pets everyday so fight about that why dont they!!!

or extinction why dont they fight for endangered animals more rather than accusing a jockey, its like accusing the lil boy who fell of his bike and broke his leg for human abuse!!!

  23. YES - it really makes me sick that they are trying to hurt this young man's ability to support himself.  He did nothing wrong.

  24. They are making press releases that will get people to make donations.

That is ALL that Peta is about..

Look at their website's annual report:

    http://www.peta.org/feat/annualreview/nu...

Can you see ANYTHING that they actually DID this year, other than raise money?

They spayed/neutered 300 pit bulls, and 440 feral cats at a discount.

That is out of $31.4 million in revenues..Pretty expensive spay..huh?
