I am mad with those scientists who are trying to use corn as fuel for cars.

If they keep doing that, the price of corn will increase and i won't be able to afford it. (i think it's already happening)

I will starve to death because I love corn.

Does anyone else think that corn should not be used as fuel?

Besides, they can instead use solar energy or wind power or something else.

  1. The biggest problem with corn-based ethanol is that it takes more energy to produce than it generates.  Add to that the effects of converting forests to cropland for growing more corn, and the added cost of food due to diverting so much corn to fuel, and it really makes very little sense.  But there's a great deal of research going on, and there's hope that a better ethanol technology will be found.

  2. I think we should let the market decide.  This means that ethanol subsidies and mandates should be eliminated.

  3. for now that is the best fuel because it is easy to mass produced and the easies to convert in to fuel with the least amount of wasted materials.more than likely the will produce allot more corn so the prices don't go up.The bad part about this is that there will be a large amount of land that will be used.I hope that the price of corn doesn't go by the gallons.

  4. I am torn on this.  Gasoline is so high priced, but if the farmers can't keep up with the demand of corn, then more than just corn will go up in price.  Feed for cattle, which is often made with corn will go up making the price of beef and milk products go up as well.  It will be good for farmers who grow corn.

  5. Corn is food both for people and animals. Whenever you decide to use a food source for a fuel source you will drive the cost of the food out of reach for both! Which is more important eating or driving?

  6. This is why government sponsorship is such a bad idea. They ALWAYS manage to find a way to back the wrong horse. Ethanol from corn is the least efficient way of making it there is. OTOH, Ethanol from sugar cane, sugar beets, CORN STALKS, and SWITCHGRASS show far greater promise. And switchgrass won't cut into our food supplies, since it can grow where nothing else will.

And just because a thing isn't currently being done doesn't mean it can't or shouldn't be done.

  7. The primary reason for pushing ethanol is to give us another supply besides foreign oil for our security. In the meantime we will build a lot of Nuclear, Wind, and Solar plants which will reduce our dependence further, as well as reduce CO2 emissions. We sill also be moving more to small cars, Hybrids, and more incentives to use mass transit and get rid of gas guzzlers. If we follow this strategy, we can reduce emissions and keep fuel costs as low as possible.

We need to relax emissions some on diesels. Europe is driving around getting more mileage than our best Hybrid by going diesel. Diesel is cheaper to make, pollutes less per gallon overall, and also provides the option of Bio-diesel as more comes available.

  8. Its not "scientists" but the oil industry that is pushing for the use of ethanol, mainly corn, because it will help prop up our petroleum habit.

  9. The use of corn should not be used to make fuel.  I think that corn should be taken out of our food supply, all it does is makes one's hind-end bigger.  The stuff is in every thing, look at the labels.

  10. Currently they do not make ethanol from celluose.  The amount of your dollar that is consumed for food due to ethanol is very small.  The reason your food costs are increasing are from greedy middlemen and the increased cost of the real fuel.  World oil prices have hit upwards of $100 per barrel.  Over the road diesel is around $3.45 a gallon.

  11. actually you are mistaken-

they use the cellulose from the stalk that would be a waste product and thrown away anyway, your healthy corn is safe

    :)

  12. ya if the corn is bad we need the good corn for feeding cows and other animal es

  13. Ethanol has been pushed by both parties because corn comes from the first state to hold a presidential primary i. e. Iowa.  The answer is nuclear power for homes and electric cars that are charged at home.  Your carbon footprint...tiny. Nuclear power is opposed by democrates the same people that are complaining about coal and oil fired power plants belching smoke into the atmosphere.

  14. Not really.

This past season saw the US with a bumper crop of corn and ethanol but no place to sell it, so where'd it go...Brazil!

The US and farmers can easily grow enough for both industries but the solution itself is purely a short term one at best.

  15. the oils that come from corn is great, and should be used for fuel i douwt the prices well go up very high.if u love it so much just grow it .

  16. maybe you should look at the real problem.

all of the SUVs that are driven to the supermarket to get eggs.

    suppose i'm a farmer.

you're trying to prevent my making more money.

how 'bout we look at your business, and legislate a 50% cut in the money you can make.

would that be alright with you?

Helper:  <<actually you are mistaken - they use the cellulose from the stalk>>

that may be so.  have you noticed the price of milk these days?  up at least 50%.  because of ethanol.

  17. They should use corn, sugar, and vegetable waste for this purpose specifically for the reason you just described.

The increased price of agricultural goods combined with the currency normally sent to the middle east remaining in the US economy would create the biggest economic boom since Roosevelt. Moreover it would divert the money from the American enemies in the middle east and build up Latin Americas sugar cane producers.

    Win, Win, Win
