Does anyone else think that maybe Efren Reyes struck a deal with the Devil?

First of all, I'm not trying to take a single thing away from his incredible skill. My point is, have you ever noticed how often he just tries to play a simple safety and somehow the 9-ball magically gets kicked all over the table and finds its way into a pocket? I realize that television does a disservice to pool fans by presenting the most rare situations in pool almost exclusively, but come on people. He seems to get awfully d**n lucky a lot of the time. Again, I agree that he's about as good as they come, so don't start in on me for trying to be critical. M.D.-BCA Instructor/Referee.

  1. I was told many years ago that "if you have a hard shot... hit'em hard. There's 6 pockets on the table and anything can happen."

I've followed that advice for years. And I have made just as many (un-godly) lucky shots has he has. And I am honest enough to admit I was lucky. h**l... at one time... luck was 90% of my game. Now it's only 50%. lol.

But it sure looks good when you look at the rail, check the angles, and measure the distance. Makes you look like you know what you're doing. And then smile when the oooohhss & aaahss go up from the railbirds.

  2. Not at all critical A very good point in fact about tv coverage . Like most sports they show the highlights more than regular play .and even bata needs a little luck from time to time. I sawa short clip on one of the sites where he was playing my fav peeve captioned the best shot ever or something like that he shot a saftey from h**l but fluked a ball in .He came out with a 2 rail kick shot I think we have all tried and made that shot .it was just his day to make it and the cameras caught it . Some of our 1 in 15-20 shots were on film we would look like the hottest sticks around

But like you pointed out he is the man at the top of the page in the books -and he didnt have to answer swimming pool questions to get there

    The Magician ??? could be

Good points Straight Gotta star this one

                                            Later Johnny

  3. It seems that way with Mr Bill (#1 player in my area).....I have played him 8 to 9 times in tournaments and the only reason he beats me is that he wins the flip each time....not once have I ever won it.... from here he is  able to control the table.....just being funny, not serious, Bill can run circles around my game with his left hand!......I have always believed that winners make their own luck......you just have to get close.....like bowling.....the lane is 60 feet long...and 60 inches wide......but all you need is one inch of skill and 60 inches of luck.......so I rather settle for the 1 inch of skill and the 60 inches of luck.....how is this connected to your question.....it is all luck, you just need enough skill to get it there and the rest takes care of itself.....Bata once ran 8 racks of rotation in a row.....why did he fail on the 9th?.....he lost the flip..in his country you flip for the break.......point is that he not only skillful but lucky also.......I don't know, maybe he did make a pact with the devil!!!

  6. You would think so

  7. That's too funny...Hubby has said the *exact* same thing...I personally haven't watched enough to see for myself, though :)

p.s. He also thinks that Mick Jagger is that guy that was doomed to walk the earth forever :)...can't think of his name.  Methusala? or something?

All right, it's spelled Methuselah, and that's just some really old guy (who died) from the Bible.  What's the name of the guy I'm thinking of?

It's Cain (aka Mick Jagger), and Hubby says it was a rumor going around for a while (Efren, not Mick), so there must be other people who think it, too.

p.p.s. You seem like a nice enough guy-- wouldn't sic li'l sis on you :)

p.p.p.s. Hey, Johhny...I do try to give credit where credit is due :)
