Question:

Does anyone else think that shark fishing is barbaric?

Does anyone have any knowledge of what sharks (if any) are on the threatened or endangered list? For the few people who get bitten by sharks, thousands of sharks are slaughtered for their fins or for sport fishing every day. I think this is outrageous.

  1. Go tell the Asians to change their diet then.

Shark Fin Soup is a very popular dish.

  2. ding, ding, ding, you won the miss America pageant. seriously, you sound like a tree hugging Greenpeace hippie. yeah it's wrong, but most of it is done by other countries so there nothing we can do. We can't even make them a democracy. You whant to help? apply youself to conservation.

  3. But isn't it barbaric when sharks attack other creatures?  I mean they don't always eat what they attack.. they just go kill it because they're curious about what it is!

  4. There is nothing barbaric about killing a shark, if you are going to eat it for food.  And I mean to eat ALL the edible portions of it's body, not just the fins!

Killing a shark strictly to take the fins and then throwing the shark back into the ocean to die truly IS barbaric and should be banned!  That is like killing a whale only for it's rendered oil.

If you want the fins for soup, take the rest of the animal at the same time.  The meat of a shark is good eating and I'm sure there is a market for the meat as well as the fins.

Don't blame sport fishermen.  We don't slaughter them just for the fun of fishing.  We only catch, tag and release sharks for researchers and when we catch them to keep, it's to eat the entire fish.  Only catch what you can eat is the belief of every true sport fisherman.  Waste is against nature and works to the detriment of all.

  5. Is a tuna's life, or a trout's life, or a bass's life worth any less than a shark's life?   Or are sharks just something that's easier for the touchy-feely crowd to latch onto as another "cause?"

  6. of course it's barbaric!!!! i felt sooo bad after eating shark fin soup......i didn't even know it was shark fin soup until my aunt told me!!!!! i even cried!!

  7. I agree it's very barbaric!!!!!  Just another thing humans (mostly Asia) are ruining, for good.  Here is info./list of endangered sharks:

  8. It is the Chinese who do this.  Read about what they do to animals they eat and you will see this is pretty much normal for them.

  9. Yes! for the simple reason that humans and sharks belong to the same class Mammalia. We have the friendliest yet the largest whale shark in the world called BUTANDING.  This endangered species is found in Donsol, Sorsogon, Bicol Region, Southern Luzon, Philippines.

  10. yeah it is outragous

  11. I have caught and released shark but I was very angry at a former friend who killed one for no reason.  The most dangerous thing is from the fishing boats of Asia that are like factories.  They catch any pelagic sharks that will take their hooks, they defin them and throw them back to die a slow death.

  12. Yes, I do. Every creature has a purpose. Check out National Geographic or just search sharks endangered species. You'll find what your looking for. They're are more than a few on the endangered species list and alot of organizations fighting to save them.
