Does anyone else think the concept of a hybrid Tahoe/Suburban/Yukon is hilarious?

Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of big cars, my first car was an '85 blazer. But seriously guys. You'r taking the biggest vehicle you can buy and adding a HYBRID to the lineup? If it makes money for GM, they can go ahead and do whatever they want, but when I think of hybrid I want to see something like a malibu or accord, both of which already have the technology. If we're trying to use less oil, we just need to buy smaller cars. With a hybrid tahoe, your just ignoring the problem to get a slight warm feeling inside while still enjoying your rhinocerous of a car.

  1. its very funny!! its kinda like that new kraft cheese that helps your digestive system!!!

  2. The ideas of bigger SUV hybrids is great. I do believe that some people however don't need they're SUVs. I saw a woman her in town the other day on the news that pissed me off. She was complaining about the high gas prices while she was filling up her Excursion. The thing Is I've met this woman a year ago when I worked at a dealership. She's only got one kid and lives in a subdivision. She's just trying to fit in with the soccer moms, and in the process whining about fuel prices.

  3. I suppose that it is. These are rather typical GM products with rather typical GM reliability. All three are on AutoOnInfo.net's Worst Automobiles of 2008.

And AutoOnInfo.net's detailed reliability/durability studies suggest that a typical GM vehicle at 3 years of age is about as troublesome to own as a typical Toyota at about 19 years of age (the Toyota Landcruiser is among the world's most reliable vehicles with a 5-year reliability Percentrank of .94) and a typical Honda at about 26 years of age. And so one must wonder why GM bothers, and then chuckle a little bit.

  4. Read the other answers.  If you need to tow a 4-horse trailer, or a big boat, then what are you supposed to do?

On the other hand, I did the math, and if all you need is lots of passenger capacity, TWO Toyota Priuses cost less than a Chevy Tahoe Hybrid, will carry ten people, and still average better gas mileage.  And when you only need to carry 4 or 5, your mileage doubles to 48/45 mpg.

  5. Yes, there really are people who need a Tahoe for their specific line of work or just to transport large volumes of cargo or people from one place to another.

And even if the real financial end goal for GM is to market an overpriced hybrid so that rich socialites can feel warm and fuzzy while they're continuing to kill the environment in their 15 MPG behemoth, the two-mode hybrid transmission is a real feat of engineering prowess, and every MPG saved is a step towards independence from fossil fuels and a cleaner, brighter tomorrow.

I would think that if you support greater fuel economy or any cause at all whose end goal is the betterment of our environment and a greener world, you wouldn't scoff at any attempt, no matter how small, to make our lifestyles more eco-friendly.

    Just my two cents.

    Best of luck!

  6. No, some people need larger vehicles due to family sizes and interests.

  7. Why?

If you need to tow something or you have many passengers, you can't move all that in a smaller Malibu or Accord. You have different vehicles for different work. The only problem I see is that the Tahoe Hybrid is way overpriced. I could get a Hybrid sedan for about $3,000 more than a normal gas sedan. A Tahoe Hybrid sells for about $55,000...that's about $10,000-$15,000 more than a regular gas Tahoe.

  8. I don't care about using less oil.   Irrelevant to me.   Just drill for the oil we already have here and let the Arabs keep theirs.

As far as the new SUV hybrids, okay by me.   I wouldn't pay for one of them, because being a hybrid cuts the tow capacity almost in half.

And I shudder to think of the maintenance costs when these things get out of warranty.

  9. some people just need larger vehicles. i heat my house with a fireplace to save on my energy costs. i can't haul large amounts of firewood in a malibu. but i'm only getting 13-15 MPG loaded. if there was a hybrid pickup with the power to get a full load of wood home, i'd get one. so it's only 17 or 18 MPG. it's still a h**l of a lot better than 13, ain't it?

  10. Yes I believe the hybrid only gets 2 mpg better mileage , this is the joker, Now if it got 10-15 miles per gallon better then it should be allowed to be called a hybrid. Just because it has new technology it shouldn't be on a stage unless it really is better. They could have gotten better mileage by putting in a smaller engine and super charging it and for less money. And if you look around we do need bigger cars because we are a bigger people , I'm getting upset with having seats break and seatbelts that don't fit and cars that aren't comfortable to sit in, why make them only for teenagers and little people??.
