  1. Yes. I don't like my tax money going to lazy people.

  2. The welfare system in America is a form of slavery.  Once one is on it, it is almost impossible to get off it.  One woman saved enough to send her daughter to college.  When the government found out she was told to spend the money immediately or lose her benefits.

  3. The problem with the welfare system is that it is unconstitutional.

Those who cannot take care of themselves are supposed to be helped first, by their families.  If their families are unable to help, or they have no family, their church.

After their church, private charities are next in line to help those who cannot help themselves.  Finally, if there is no one else to help, the LOCAL government may create a relief agency to make sure that no one starves, or freezes to death.

The stress is on the word local, because at the local level, the person being helped is known to the community helping him or her.  It is known how many dependents this person has.  The local people know this persons history, and disabilities.

When the federal government got into the "welfare" business, it was just one more program to control people.  The people on the dole were controlled, and so were the rest of us, since "government" decided how much we were charged for their "charity".  Federal welfare, just like food stamps, is just one more socialist program to control us.

We all, as individuals have an obligation to take care of those in need.  This obligation is NOT transferable to government.

  4. Well where i live I think they are very reformed.  Work 32 hours or go to school 32 hours, 5 yr time limit.  you must get good grades.  must get off aid for 10 months if you get pregnant again.  There are so many rules that its hard to take advantage.  I think though welfare should encourage education.  They should make it mandatory to get a GED if you dont have one or a diploma.  I also think that at least 1/4 of your hours should be some kind of school.

  5. The US system went through a major overhaul in 1996.  Maybe it needs some tweaking , no system is perfect....

"caseloads peaked at 5.1 million families in 1994, millions have left the welfare rolls for low-paying jobs. Nearly 1 million more have been kicked off for not following states' rules or have used up all the benefits they're allowed under time limits. Today, 1.9 million families get cash benefits; in one-third of them, only the children qualify for aid."  (2006 info)

  6. The welfare system has needed reform as long as I can recall and all I have seen is a lot of bandaids and no real progress.

  7. The Taxation System needs to be reformed first. The Congress. Next is D.C. the rest will fall in  place

  8. I guess you missed the last one...(if you are talking about the one for poor families...$16 1/2 Billion per year now)

But you were probably talking about the one that is costing us big money! Corporate welfare so far this year is 4-5 Trillion and counting!!! probably will hit 10 Trillion this year with all the banking and financial "institutions" plus paying off some of the countries (Japan and China) that lent them money before they lost it...

Dang right we need welfare reform!

  9. We need only temporary hardship welfare, mandatory drug tests to receive benefits, and 100% coverage on birth control for recipients.

Those things would stop a lot of problems.

  10. Yes we give money to too many people.

  11. yes, it does need an overhaul !! example :  recovering drug addict and alcoholic...gets $600.00 + a month to sit on his butt because the ..therapist..{ being paid by the government as an ..expert } says he can not function in society anymore or hold a job properly.  what ?? last time i checked if you had 2 arms and 2 legs, you could work ..doing something !!  even if it is flipping burgers at the local..fast food restaurant !!  unless you are mentally handicapped or missing a limb...GET A JOB.. and work like the rest of us !!!  to draw a check, i think you should at the minimum, work / volunteer at a shelter or clean the sidewalks for the check !!

  12. The welfare system needs to address the poor sector.

  13. Yes.  Too many people who do not deserve welfare have infiltrated the system and are recieving assistance, when they should be required to get their fat arses up off the sofa and get to work.

Make them do community work to 'earn" their welfare check.

Paying people more because they have another child.  What BS.
