Question:

Does anyone else wonder whether those people blasting by you on the freeway are skeptics or believers?

I putt down the freeway at my 60-65 pace to save a little gas money. It gets me about another 1.5 mpg to do that on my commute. I'm in the huge minority of people who drive like that. What I have to wonder is how many of those other people blasting by me at 75 and 80 to save a couple of minutes on their commute, then turn around and complain about AGW and how bad Bush is for not signing Kyoto? Anyone else have thoughts like that?

  1. I speed and I don't complain about my gas and I have a Jeep which isn't the best on gas mileage.

I think they would use it as an excuse, pretty much people like that use anything as an excuse to blast bush or anyone who doesn't believe the same thing as they do.

  2. if they really cared about the environment they would go the speed limit, properly inflate their tires, group errands into one trip instead of going in and out of the house, ride a bike or walk when optional, and call ahead to eliminate pointless trips around town in your car when businesses might be closed

  3. They seem like people who would love to live in the madmax world. They  may get their wish.

  4. You'd think they'd be skeptics, but it doesn't seem to work that way.  I know a few environmentalists who drive fast and we all know about Al Ghore.  It seems to be a case of believing that someone else should take responsibility.

  5. I've always assumed them to be skeptics, since they're driving 60-65 and above.

  6. I don't drink Starbucks, but I do drive a Prius, and on the freeway I drive 65 mph also to save on gas and emissions.

I have seen people driving Priuses going significantly faster, but some go close to the speed limit.

Generally I would assume that people who are concerned about AGW would probably drive more slowly to reduce their emissions.

  7. Weather Channel Founder:

"It is the greatest scam in history. I am amazed, appalled and highly offended by it. Global Warming; It is a SCAM. Some dastardly scientists with environmental and political motives manipulated long term scientific data to create in [sic] allusion of rapid global warming. Other scientists of the same environmental whacko type jumped into the circle to support and broaden the "research" to further enhance the totally slanted, bogus global warming claims. Their friends in government steered huge research grants their way to keep the movement going. Soon they claimed to be a consensus."

  8. If they are sipping their Starbucks latte while driving their Prius or Yaris, they are probably believers but you never know, I was sipping my Starbucks this morning while driving my Yaris and I am the biggest skeptic you can find.  I do confess to pushing that Yaris faster than I should sometimes. If you drive 60 in LA, you may not be the most popular person on the freeway and it can be downright dangerous.
