or am I the only one with a child with this special talent -lol My girl is about 7 1/2 half months and for the last month or so she has known how to make herself sick. When feeding her foods for the first time or even if she just decided she was done she will make a gaging noise in the back of her throat until she throws up everything. At first I thought she was choking but realized she was almost smiling when doing it. I told her no she stopped and smiled at me so I know she is doing it on purpose! I seen her almost choke once and this is different. Its fustrating and definetly not a good thing, I am thankful she stops when I say no but sometimes I don't catch it in time. Does anyones elses child do this or is there something else your child does that you wish they didn't?

  1. Mine didn't do this, but you might be able to stop her from doing it if you let her feed her self.  Babies have a hard time knowing how much they're eating when they're being spoon fed, plus they have less control over it than if they were feeding them selves.  Letting her chow down on some pieces of fruits and veggies that she can pick up and eat herself may stop her from doing that all together.

  2. Actually when my daughter was about 6 1/2 months (shes 9 months now) she was doing it too... not to the point where she would throw up everything, but enough that she would start choking on it. it is definitely irritating and a little scary. After a few times I would completely walk away from her.( not enough that i wasn't there) but i would ignore her and eventually she stopped

  3. she might think it's funny to make that noise but it could get out of hand so I would talk to a doctor about it.

  4. I had something similar to this when my daughter was 18 months old, but not the same.  Every time my daughter would stick out her tongue, she would gag.  Not throw it all the way up, but close.  She would do it several times in a row.  I took her to the Dr. who had no answers & I asked on here, with no real answers.  It really hard to tell if she is doing it on purpose, this could be a medical condition.  Since repeated vomiting can damage the esophagus & the enamel on your teeth, as well as other things. I would take her to the doctor.

Best of luck & I hope it is not serious.

  5. I have heard of babies making themselves sick before, but not exactly this scenario.  I suggest that you give no attention to it.  Don't react.  Just clean it up and ignore it.  If you reinforce the behavior, it becomes a game for her.  She likes to see your reaction.  If that doesn't solve the problem, you should consult a physician.
