Where I live, people like to go into some narrow coves to swim and stuff..at the lake. There is no way to do any beating in an area like that and I think all of the land lovers would feel sorry for us if we started paddeling. anyone ever seen someone put an engine on a cat?

  1. s***w the landlubbers!   I had to paddle my 16' hobbie cat one time.   It went faster than a canoe with very little effort.

  2. Have seen it done on a Prindle  & a Hobie

.Both were under sail at the time & not sure of size, but they had gas outboards mounted to the rear crossbrace.

Think  the engines were  black &  could have been very small Mercury's .

No idea if they were factory kits or whatever mods might have been made.

    Theres 2.

    Best regards

  3. Where to put one is one question, and another is the likelihood of Hobies capsizing. You can use a small electric motor on the trampoline but even storing the battery is a problem. Basically it is not a good idea,if you could figure out how to mount them,  good sweeps would work easily.

  4. Hey ever been on the lake and the wind just went away? it,s a helpless feeling, 2.5 to 5.hp should do just fine and still not be in the way. A trolling motor and Battery wouldn't weigh much less.

    Enjoy the day,s

  5. I got caught out in the gulf last summer when the wind died and had to wait for the tide to change to proceed through the pass. I needed a motor then and I have one now. found a few web sites that have had a rear mount but I made one for the front. Mounts on the pontoon and flips up not to cause a drag. A 2.5 mercury that can be set at a certain speed without holding the throttle and can be tightened down to push the boat forward. I then can steer with the rudders.
