  1. 99% of the time, a player is so full of adrenalin that the only thing they feel at the bottom of a ruck is impatience. A grounded ruck usually only lasts about thirty seconds at the most.

If you have a particularly useless scrumhalf or you are the scrumhalf and the other forwards are wasting their time looking wildly around the pitch for you and you find that you are under there for ages make sure you stay on your side and tense your stomach muscles to protect your ribs and don't let your legs get tangled. That's how I dislocated my knee.

Make sure your head is protected because even a light concussion is an automatic 3 weeks of no game.

Also try and keep breathing even if you are having the life crushed out of you because it only takes about a minute to pass out.

Stay calm and the minute you feel pressure lifting explode upwards, look around wildly for the b**ch that tackled you in the first place just so you can return the favor.

  2. Am not sure what you mean by the bottle of a ruck, but if you aren't alligned right with your head down then rucking can be quite painful, especially if you are in the middle somewhere. Maybe take the time to go over the basics with your coach to make sure that you are in the right position? Always start low, and bind tightly keeping your head down.
