After working at Macys for 6 months I feel that the store doesn't feel like a service oriented department store. Macys pays us employees minimum wage and doesn't train us on information about the merchandise. We don't get comission. All me and other employees know how to do is ring up the customers and put the item in the bag. If customers ask us questions about the products we are notThe store charges $15 to have an item gift wrapped. The store carries tons of low end off brand merchandise.

How can Macys compete with Target on lower end and specailty retailors like Williams Sonoma and Bed Bath & Beyond? Many people looking for good department store merchandise and customer service go to Nordstrom.

Is the future of Macys the same as well known stores like Woolworths, Montgomary Ward and many other defunct retail stores?

Our Macys just hired 10 new employees. All of them are ages 16,17 and 18 years old. How can people this age give good customer service and handle customers?

  1. I agree, people of that age are not fit for handling customers in a professional way. However you have to think of the business aspect point of view, these youths need jobs - and if they were not provided with them then there would be complaints (also there is sometimes a quota within business to not appear ageist

so the best bet is simply to hire them, 10 isn't a great deal to be honest).

Complain to a manager of your local store and they'll probably give you a reason why.
