  1. the taxi is not over priced.....

yes it is too expensive for me to use...

i talke the bus to work, leave a few minutes early, and always get downtown on time.

i take the taxi to the airport and for a ten minute drive, it is like 13 dollars....not really expensive.

gas and license and all the costs of maintenance means the prices must rise.

as for one poster who complained that they were not all white.....i enjoy talking to people in other countries.

lots of african and indian and middle eastern taxi drivers here.

  2. Yes, I only used taxi once before the taxi fare hike in NYC because taxis are expensive. I also have used taxi service in Westchester County, which is more expensive.

I used bus and subway service.

I hate waiting for buses at LaGuardia Airport terminal because there's no bus schedules printed at Airline Terminals at Delta-NW, US Airways and Central Terminal unlike New Jersey Transit Bus at Newark Liberty Airport.

At Newark Liberty Airport, NJT Bus schedules are listed at its stop.

MTA Bus Co, former private companies and Staten Island Division of Atlantic Express does not have schedule at its bus stop, except for express buses operated by MTA Bus.

NYCT Local has schedule if bus stops are served either three, two or one route.

I also used taxi when I was living with my grandmother in Miyazaki, Kyushu prefecture in Japan.

  3. i don't feel, i know....but Hubby's my taxi mostly :)

  4. Yes the most definitely are, then the jack up the fare if you use em at night. That is when most people want a taxi because the buses stop running around eight at night!

  5. Yes it seems absorbent

But the cost of over-head, to include salaries, insurance, gas, oil and other maintenance on the vehicles.... it adds up fast

You have to weigh out which works best for you at what times

and choose your mode of transportation accordingly

I use both!  and my private car

  6. travel on horse...

  7. They are not only expensive but none of em "speeka dee eengliiish" Boycott them do not use the stinking service. all taxis in britain should be less than two years old top quality e.g merc bmw audi and have a white driver that does not smell and can speak ENGLISH.

  8. When you think of the cost of insurance for private/public hire, council licence fees, 6 monthly tests by the council, equivalent to an MOT, maintenance and repairs, fuel, not to mention the initial cost of the vehicle, plus the guy wants paying they are probably not too dear.

The average "taxi" probably costs 4 times it would be to keep the average family car on the road.

  9. Taxis are point-to-point service...Unfortunately, many taxis in this country are operated by poorly trained drivers who may not be real knowledgeable of the area you want to go to...The fares are spelled out by a meter that may or may not be the most reliable...And many drivers are from other countries where they may not have been in the business...There is no standard of appearance or conduct for the drivers...And the industry is very competitive...Customer service is not a strong suit...Bottom line: know where you have to go and know how to get there.

In large metro areas, like Los Angeles, buses can be unreliable since they have to share the same roads with all the other traffic.

    Summary: pick your poison.

  10. I think so too. I think that it is more affordable to take public transit or get a ride from a friend than to take the taxi.

  11. It's a matter of critical mass. 60 years ago when more people used taxis more often, a taxi needed to drive fewer "deadhead" miles -- miles with no passenger -- to pick up the next fare. Since the meter was nearly all the time, the dollars per mile could be quite low and still generate a certain number of dollars per hour. Since taxis are used less and less, they spend more time sitting and waiting between calls. The driver still needs to make a certain number of dollars per hour, but it's shared among fewer passengers. The result is that individual taxi fares much to up.

  12. I DONT KNOW. WE DONT HAVE TAXI.S HERE.

  13. Yes I do

  14. I don't find bus services unreliable, but they are slow, so if I'm in a hurry I take a taxi. London black cabs are very expensive and I fear they will price themselves out of existance. The taxi drivers patently demand a very high profit margin; the cabs are very expensive to buy and fuel costs have risen dramatically.

  15. Hi Dave

Simply yes, but they blame the rise in fuel and insurance costs, bt as a guide, im my local town centre, a TAXI stated it was £15 to go 1.5miles another quoted £10, so i have no idea of the pricing structure, as for private hire, well there a law to themselves... over £5 per mile at 10pm.

But they have you by the short and curlies...

  16. You are JOKING, they are far to cheap.

You have no idea how much it cost to put a cab on the road.

We have to pay for the taxi licence and plates, insurance is sky high, regular taxi test of condition of the car including engine and bodywork.

We cant just put up the Fayre's when petrol/diesel rises in price like transport company's do, we have to wait yearly for a cost of living rise.

We also have to put up with arseholes who have to much to drink, puke up in the cab and moron's who do a runner without paying.

Go by bus my friend and wait at the bus stop for hours in the rain.
