Does anyone feel that the Iraqis being banned from Beijing is one of the stupidest things ever?

the IOC takes the one symbol of national unity that a country plagued by secretarian violence has, and they rip it away. it's almost like the people want Iraq to fall apart.

what, is it because their afraid of Iraq becoming a success story after they badmouthed the U.S? i just don't get why you would do something like that? it's like pick pocketing a poor person. what does the IOC gain?

the Iraqis: sunnis, shiites, and kurds were all dancing in the streets when Iraq did well in their last international tournament. why on Earth would you take that away?

I think this is horrible after all that Iraq has been going through. I think the Iraqis should compete not only for their own sake but also for the sake of our troops who destroyed Saddam and made a torture-free Olympic competition possible for them.

the IOC doesnt like the olympics used to make politcal statements.  However, it's unavoidable when they are in China.

I say let the Iraqis compete, but dont let them do interviews if you dont want them to make a polital statement.

The IOC is a political instrument of the major powers.  The Olympics are not what they are reported to be.

I think it's horrible.  The more I think about it, the more I am so saddened for Iraqis.  To take such a thing away, how terrible and humiliating.  To single them out on the world stage like that, just beyond unacceptable.  And to politicize something as venerable as the Olympics, one of the few things that are supposed to be above and beyond the "politics du jour."  Terrible!

I think it's very terrible for them to be banned.  This is one of the things that gives the people unity.  The officials say they may still have a little chance of going still.  But I highly doubt that it is possible.
