Does anyone feel that the books Fahrenheit 451 and Uglies are really similar?

I'm reading Fahrenheit 451 for my AP English Lit class. I've read (and own) the books Uglies, Pretties, and Specials, by Scott Westerfield, and I noticed that the books seem very similar.

Has anyone else noticed this?

  1. I never thought about it, but you're right.

  2. Well, I read Fahrenheit 451 last year and I haven't yet read The Uglies but, to me, it seems Fahrenheit seems more like whats happeneing in our world now since the book was well written over 50 years ago. The TV's, The Seashells in the ears, the doctors pumping that woman our like a sewer pipe. The Uglies is just an operation when you turn 16 to make yourself beautiful. But I can see it being similar.

  3. They're both dystopian science fiction, period. Read any Philip K. d**k and you'll think the same thing.

  4. Have a look at these study guides.  A couple of the links discuss significant quotes from the book.  The guides should give you some ideas about your question and help you with your work with this novel.  Also do a search for the novel title here on Yahoo Answers and you will find that many other questions have been asked about it, and those questions and answers should be of help to you.
