With the condition of our earth, don't you think it kind of works to our benefit to keep gas prices high, if people are doing less pollution to the air with gas?

  1. I think that higher gas prices will encourage people to look for new energy sources to power their cars and other vehicles.

  2. There are definately some positives in the high gas prices.  More investment in alternative energy, more conservation, etc.  But we would be much better off if we would do both of those without the high costs in areas where there is no practical alternative to gasoline in the short run.   So overall, the high prices hurt us if we reduce it to mathematics, but that ignores the essential element of motivation.

I agree that the high prices have motivated action that has been called for for years and largely ignored in the absence of the high prices.

  3. The cost of fuel affects virtually EVERYTHING that you need or want to buy-- food, medicine, that computer you are using and even the cost of installing a solar or wind power generating system.

Rapidly rising prices are NEVER a good thing.

  4. No just republicans like high fuel prices.

  5. yes and no.

with high prices it cuts back on driving, yet it will ultimately raise prices through out and bring us into a depression if we are not careful.

  6. People are still driving, no matter the price, maybe they're driving a bit less, but it's having a negligible impact on saving the environment and more on hurting our wallets.

  7. The high cost of gas is bad in every way.  It is causing problems and ripple effects felt in unrelated areas, and elsewhere.  The high cost of gas is ruining the airline industry, it's causing problems with the trucking industry.  Most of everything we buy and sell comes from a truck.  Food costs are higher because of gas, food costs are higher because of the very stupid idea of using a major food staple, corn, as a fuel source.  Inflation isn't helping either.

School lunches are going to cost more.  Charitabvle giving is down, now people can't afford to give as much and some are out completely.  The cost of utilities are set to go up too, making for a miserable winter for a lot of people.  And possibly dangerous for the sick and weak who cannot afford high heating bills.

But hey, who cares.  As long as prices are high, we can protect the Earth.  Yay!  Al Gore should be proud.

  8. Yes and no....maybe people will get the idea to do less driving and car pool more.

But it's really doing a number on the economy.  It seems as though a lot of businesses are jumping on the "higher cost of fuel bandwagon"

and adding unfair fuel surcharges to their bills in the name of gas prices rising.  I feel there is a lot of that going on and it's too bad.

  9. i think it's a good thing, since it makes people think more about what they're doing every day. It's well documented that oil companies will have an incentive to provide other energy sources only when the price of gas goes above a certain level.

Europeans for the last decade or more, have been paying $5/gallon for gas, now they're paying close to $10/gallon. It's all taxes. If we had been taxed that much, of course people would come up with ways to save more quickly.

  10. Yes, but not so high as to force us not to use any fuel.  Taxing gasoline is not the right thing, taxes just allow those that should not be driving to drive.

  11. yes. too many people treat vehicles like second legs. they dont walk anymore! I heard how some guy in america always takes a car and drives 500 meters. come on, thats a nice walk. at least people think now how gas is harmful to the environment. especially when 2 million people die each year cause of pollution.
